A dog was saved by vodka after being poisoned by anti freeze.
A dying dog was saved by getting drunk on vodka.
Charlie, a maltese terrier was poisoned after drinking an anti- freeze substance from his owner's garage, and was quickly rushed to hospital where he was treated with the alcohol through a drip.
Charlie's owner, Jacinta Rosewarne, was told by vets, he had ethylene glycol poisoning, which can lead to kidney failure, and was fed vodka for two days to counteract the poison before being allowed home.
According to animal experts, alcohol was used to treat the pup as it alters a chemical reaction in the body which allows it to flush out the poison more effectively.
Following the incident, the Animal Accident & Emergency unit in Melbourne, Austraila, where Charlie was treated, wrote on its blog: ''The good news is that Charlie has recovered and is not showing signs of kidney failure.''
''Charlie went home this morning, still nursing a hangover.''
