It was a beautiful night, John had asked Annette to meet her in town so they could have dinner and she had been very excited because it had been long. She had left home at 5 p.m to beat traffic so she could be in town by 7 p.m. It was 8.30 p.m and still no sign of John at Rhapsody where they were supposed to meet. She had already taken a whole bottle of wine and didn't feel hungry anymore. Her heart sunk by the minute and tears welled in her eyes. John had done it again? By 9.30 p.m he could not wait any longer. She paid for the wine and took a bike home to Kibamba. She had never ridden a bike and wasn't thinking straight but it was what she felt like doing that very instant. She kept holding the biker tight and letting out squeals of fear from time to time but she did actually enjoy the ride with tears falling down her pretty face. "Do you know where the Pine Bar is",she asked the biker. "Nah, but you will direct me and I shall drop you there". "Aye," she said.

It was quite dark where she sat drinking some gin at the Pine Bar. And she wanted it that way. She felt so hurt and cried so had that she started having hiccups. And at that she felt a hand at the nape of her neck and wasn't scared neither did she bother to turn. She was becoming familiar with J's touch. "Shush Lil Mama, don't cry. He let you down again?" And with that he held her so tight and never had she felt so warm, and so at home, in a long long time. When she calmed down, he looked into her pretty face and gave her a kiss on her forehead. And this time when she reached for her lips, she did not resist. She kissed him back with so much passion and hunger that their fate was sealed right there. There was no denying they were now going to see each other as a couple. " Eeeer she bit me", said J as he ticketed her and Annette laughed so hard and so loud that she was amazed at herself. She had long forgotten how her own husband stood her up until her phone rung. "Hey honey, are you still at Rhapsody?" Came the voice from the other end. It was very very drunk and she simply hung up. "Are you okay darling?" J asked as he rubbed her hair and have her a kiss. Annette laughed at the sight of him with lipstick all over his face and snuggled closer to him.
 
"Let's go, you are working tomorrow". "Okay Mom," said J and walked her home at 3 a.m. She held tight to his hand and J chuckled. 'I'd never let anything happen to this tiny little thing', he thought to himself. Frogs croaked at a nearby stream and crickets added to the beautiful sounds of the night. He gave her a kiss and told her about the parcel. "No, J.... no more Dada business between us..... and one more thing," Annette said as she looked up at him with a coy smile," I don't share my men but I give you time to solve your issues". Goodnight.

He knew what that meant. He had to choose between Angel and Annette. All his friends used to laugh at him. He was a one woman man. He never played his women. And he knew if he paid any attention to his friends, he would lose his new woman. 'Nothing will come between Annette and me. Nothing. And Moosa has to go. I don't care if he is her best friend and my cousin, but he has to go. Annette will have only me in her life', he thought to himself as he fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning. And as it was, he missed his bus to work and called in sick with a wide grin on his face.
