She lay in her cozy lounge one lazy Sunday afternoon watching her phone ring wondering whether to answer it or not until the caller hung up. Only to redial again. It was Moosa her best friend.
"Hey, are you sleeping?" Came the voice from the other end, "Come on, am out with the rest of the crew.... shall I come pick you up?" And she said No. She never went out with less than 250,000 in her purse. She paid all her Bills effortlessly. She was a grown mature woman. She had class and had her limits. And Moosa knew this clearly.
"Come on, the bill is on me. Am sending Ritchie your cab guy to rush you here." And so plans for the afternoon were set. Off she went to Kabatini dressed in a short dress and wedges. She had jilted her signature jeans much to everyone's surprise. She wasn't the womanly type, the stiletto and dresses type. Nah. She was the denim and boots or sneakers type.
A little shy, she noticed all eyes on her as the took the flight of stairs to where Moosa was. There were three guys with him and she got introduced. Hance, Ludo and J. She blushed the entire time but Moosa knew his best friend well.... and it was down to cooling off the heat with plenty of Castle Lite beers. She could tell she had a spell on the guys, but it was never her thing. She just loved booze. She loved booze and time and again she joked about it being her Forever Faithful.
Well at some point, with booze you have to start using the restroom and when she was coming back, Lo and behold J was rolling some weed right in front of the pub. Like goodness, who rolls weed right outside a pub, in public on the highway? Being the wild woman she was she accepted the puff passed to her and blew away. Some good weed that was. She took in some more and passed to J. And she never would have missed the look in his eyes telling her that he was blown away.
She was relaxed now. Boozing away laughing at the boys jokes... she was great company never felt out of place with men and it was time to move inside where the music was being played. She did not notice that J had switched seats and she was now next to him. And Ludo had actually to type a text on his phone to get to her. 'You look so much like Avril', read the text 'are you related?' and she let out her heart laugh that was so addictive. You just looked at her laughing yourself until she stopped laughing. She typed No and passed the phone to Ludo through J.
All the guys rose to dance except J and this fine lady Annette remained seated. She did not like to dance at all. What she did not know was that J had established a protective grip on her. And she only realized this when she asked J to excuse her so she could go to the ladies. He grabbed her and told her, No dancing.
Wow. Who does he think he is. She said to Moosa as he escorted her to the ladies as he went to the gents. He shrugged and laughed at his cousin J. It was a beautiful night. The booze, the music and the company...... but soon it was the wee hours of the morning and they each had to find our own way home.
Ludo dropped each of them home, Annette first being the only lady and J made it clear to everyone that he was impressed by Annette and he would see her soon.
As soon as the guys dropped her off at her gate, Annette reached for her purse. For the keys to the house? Yes but first, she had to wear her wedding band and her white diamond and Tanzanite engagement ring and remind herself that she was married.
Hmmmm she sighed to her self and the weight in her heart resumed as she made her way into her marital home........
