Rwandan President Paul Kagame has poured cold water on Kenya’s Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), calling it “a big sham and a rip-off.”
Speaking at the sidelines of an international seminar at Kigali, Kagame said it was “extremely disturbing” that Kenya’s ruling Jubilee Regime would escalate the costs of the SGR to astronomical levels so as to fleece Kenyan taxpayers of their sweat “for the benefit of a few people at the top.”

“They are now trying to excite Kenyans with the refurbished trains that weres used in China in 1950s, running on diesel engines. Terrible!” Kagame said. Tanzania’s SGR is four times longer than Kenya’s but only two times as expensive.

Rwanda and Uganda recently shunned the Kenyan SGR, choosing instead to connect their countries to a railway line running from the Tanzanian port of Tanga through to Kigali and then up to the Ugandan capital, Kampala. High level corruption being perpetrated by Kenyan top officials, leading to inflated costs, was mainly blamed for the decision to eschew the Kenyan route.

“They should wait until we start running our electric trains. They will be very ashamed of themselves,” said the Rwandan President as he chided the Kenyan Administration for being insincere to its people.

NONSENSE

That supposedly quote from Kagame sounds alot like fake news.. How can trains that only started manufacturing in 2004 be 1950's? When or where did Uganda say they are connecting their railway to Tanzania? Has he seen the mabati sheds called Stations to say they are similar to Kenya but half the cost? Have the Tz trains even been procured for us to see how they will look like?

Tanzania begins construction of Tabora- Katavi power transmission line project

Tanzania begins construction of Tabora- Katavi power transmission line project
The government of Tanzania has flagged off construction of Tabora- Katavi power transmission project. Speaking yesterday after laying the foundation stone for the construction of the power line at Kampuni Village in Mpanda District, Katavi region, President Magufuli said the project will help save millions that the fifth phase government has been spending to run power generators.

The government through Tanzania Electric Supply Company ( Tanesco) has been spending US $3m annually to operate the generators.

Tabora- Katavi power transmission project
The Tabora- Katavi power project estimated to cost US $59m, entails construction of Kilovolt 132 from Tabora with the length of 138 kilometres electricity transmission line from Tabora to Mpanda. Upon completion, will supply 130 MW to region whose current consumption of power stands at between 5 and 6 MW. The project will also solve frequent power outages as the generated power will surpass their actual consumption.

President Magufuli explained that in the past power outages were normal in the country but in recent years the problem been contained after it came to the attention of authorities that some officials were sabotaging power production at Mtera Hydro Power dam by tampering with the water supply system at the reservoir.

“Once Katavi is connected to the national grid the region can contribute considerably to the national economy as regional residents can start up industries whenever they wish to and the operation costs will also go down,” said Dr Magufuli.

The president also gave assurance that Nyerere Hydropower project, which is currently under implementation will change Tanzania’ supply as it will produce 2,115 MW to the national grid.

MY TAKE

when no proper drainage system put in place! "SGR Kenya's first class"

Do you want us to flood this threads with photos of the current floods in Dar es Salaam? Stop being petty. This floods are normal and Dar is experiencing worse.

Its already a pain trying everyday to educate you about Kenya's SGR project, and now I am forced to also educate you about your own Tz rail, Jeez!

Your rail will use a dedicated 220 kv single-circuit transmission line that will run from Dar to Kingolwira village in Morogoro , so that story you have put here about construction of a 132kv line from Tabora to Mpanda is not for the SGR, If you cared to read your TZ SGR report you would know that your main power source will come from Kinyerezi

And BTW, the cost of the TZ SGR project does not include the cost of the locomotive, coaches, wagons, it also does not include the cost of this transmission line as per the report....TANESCO will foot the bill for the dedicated transmission line and substations..... If you were to include all those expenses to the $1.7B already used.. well, let me not speculate, we shall be able to know the total expense once the rail is done.
