On
January 26, 2026, the Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Force, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced an order to arrest Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), whether alive or dead.
Through the social media platform X, he stated that they had stopped searching for Bobi Wine for 24 hours following a directive from the Commander-in-Chief, President Yoweri Museveni, who was recently re-elected for a seventh term.
Bobi Wine had been in hiding since the announcement of the January 15, 2026 election results in Uganda. Earlier, Muhoozi had given Bobi Wine 48 hours to surrender to the police, which he failed to do, and subsequent military operations to locate him were unsuccessful.
Claim
An image has been circulating online claiming to show Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) in a public transport vehicle in Uganda, known as a “Matatu,” with the caption: “Bobi Wine in a Matatu with Ugandans as the military is still looking for him.”
Verdict
Using Google Reverse Image Search, JamiiCheck found that the image is from an event posted on TikTok via the
National Unity Platform’s page on January 22, 2024, showing Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu riding in a Matatu with other passengers.
Therefore, the image circulating online is not from 2026 and is unrelated to this year’s events; it is actually from 2024.
