Yes. For the 2.4m Eurostar Prime Focus dish, the calculations are:

F/D ratio = 0.38 (same as that for the 180Cm)
Diameter = D = 240Cm
Focal Length = F = 91.2Cm

The F/D ratio is obtained from the Eurostar Satellite Product Catalogue available at:

Maybe the gurus in the house can give us the way but personally i am impressed with the starlife. It has given me an increase of more than 15% on sd channels and a 20% increase in hd channels without moving the dish position......:.but hey as i said i am only a newbie 🙂

A pal of mine has an Envision 500 (which I highly suspect is a DM 500S clone) which gets stuck at the loading page while booting. After some research through numerous forums, I intend to load a new image on it. I have the flash loader, a trial avatar image, but I just wont get a null cable in computer shops. Is there somebody with a lead on the same or alternative ways of connecting the box to a pc? I hear there is a way of converting RS 232 cable to null but am not sure. Kindly assist gurus

Hi Ugango, northumber , yes I am using a prime focus dish, with a special Ku-band lnb holder. I used the 10730 Mhz tp to track, maximized on it then did a blind scan . Noted that the signal strength keeps varying between 60 and 57 %. Generally Ofset dishes always work better than prime focus, So I believe you should have an easier time with your 1.8

Thanks Ruffcast and Ugango. Ruffcast, where did you get your special Ku band LNB holder?. Interesting that Ugango failed to nail BADR with a 1.8m Prime Focus dish in Nairobi, I am wondering if it is worth trying. If you look at the footprint of the BADR Beams, their is a blip down towards Lake Victoria, otherwise the footprint shows only marginal coverage in north of Turkana District, and nothing much in Nairobi. I wonder if this could explain how Ruffcast was able to nab the bird but Ugango could not track it?

And Ruffcast, looking more closely at the photo you sent of your dish set-up, your Ku band LNB looks very similar to the modified Ku band LNB that our friend from Ghana described in his description of how he got SKY TV in Ghana. Did you modify your LNB by joining the scalar ring of an LNB designed for a Prime Focus dish to a high performing HD KU band LNB for an offset dish? Just wondering.

I actually didn't modify anything, just replaced the C-band lnb holder with the ku-band holder. used some nuts and bolts to attache it on the arms dish's arms. It looks like this


The Santech ku Lnb that is designed for prime focus is what I used.



But in a few days I am getting a stargold fuji. Which I gather is more sensitive.I have not giving up on the Eutelsat 7E european beam ,keen on giving it another try

After so much man-hours, gave up on getting the digiturk goodies on the europe b beam,eutelsat 7E, so decided to try Badr and not to be disappointed got goodies like BBC HD,FX,fighBox HD,DocuBox HD,Aljazeera America, so all is good. i'm using a 1.8m dish, with a sanstech fuji lnb. location - shores of lake Victoria

on another note, I can attest to the performance of starlite. Its really good , i set it up on a 90cm and it got CNN,MTV tp from nilesat 201 7.3w and the MBC channel tp so easily.

Was using the former on my 1.8 prime focus. I am not saying its bad, only that in my opinion, starlife has an edge over it

i beg to differ with you on that, both this lnbs are for prime focus dishes, you affix either of this on an offset dish and you wont get no signal.
My hunt for 7e last night made me cut up a eurostar quad and fuji single as illustrated by a fellow ASAS addict and i still didnt manage to lock onto the european beam although there was a remarkable jump in quality on the zimbo frequency (12728 h 30000) of 10% from 71% to 81%. After a blind scan with the 4922 i was suprised to see 4.8e and 5e all pop up with very high signal levels. The hunt would have continued well into the night had it not been for the liverpool game which started at 10pm and i had to cede my rights to the tv to the epl fans in the hse. A forum member told me that i must hit atleast 87% on the zimbo tp for the european beam to pop up, the hunt continues later today as ASAS patients have a never give up attitude which comes with the package. Digiturk here i come.
