African Satellite World and Sat Gear

African Satellite World and Sat Gear

Congrats Nash for the acquisition of the receiver. Thanks for the info too. What caught my attention was the mention of getting some D*g*t**k TPs at low percentages. Does it mean this box has a very sensitive tuner?

Hi Chief. I think its behaving like the Satlink-WS6906 satellite meter. If you get a quality of 30% on the meter while tracking, it means on SRT4922 you will hit 60%. It is something to do with calibration in its GUI (Graphic User Interface). However, I find it slightly more sensitive than the SRT4922. It is also more sensitive than the Skybox-F3 which will not pick any D*g*t**k signal (of course encrypted on the Skybox-F3) when its Quality falls below 40%. The two D*g*t**k TPs were still stable at Q of 24%. I will run more tests and report back.

chief soita same question wanted to ask if the tuner is better than strong.also if its good in blindscanning especially low symbol rate tps

I will run more tests, especially on the fridge D*g*t**k TPs and compare its performance with the SRT4922 the update the forum. It has blind-scanning facility. Was able to pick two low symbol-rate feed TPs on 7E - Africa Beam. I guess one was coming from S*u*p*e*r*S*p*o*r*t. They were quite stable.

Congrats Hon. FTA-Nash for the latest acquisition. I should break the bank and have one too. What is striking is the ability to pop up pictures with low quality (if it was not a typo in your write-up). That 10845 tp and most other tps carrying the d*g*t**k goodies won't pop up till you hit Q78% with 4950H, which is famed to have a very sensitive tuner. But I have also noted from other reviewers that it is also very delicate and sensitive and should be handled with care. When I grow up, I want to own that stb.

Hi Gich. I think I broke a Bank "Account" yesterday. When given an option of acquiring a shoe or another Hi-Tech decoder, most likely I will go for the decoder! LoL! Let me run further tests and let you know. The V8 also supports DiSEqC facility.

Thank you Mr. FTA-Nash for your kind words and elaborate review of the Openbox V8 Combo. The device is a true performer.
Mr. sebmjomba thank you too for the referral, much appreciated.
I happen to be the stranger in question and it was a pleasure doing business with you.
I still have a few pieces with me for those who may be interested.

Great to meet you. I think you are a gentleman. No longer a stranger in the 'House'.
Welcome to the "Acute Satellite Addiction Sydrome" (ASAS) Club! You mentioned that you have links with China and can assist forum member to import "anything". I hope that includes 2.4 meter offset dishes (solid, mesh, fiber, etc) from China.

No he doesn't just like FTA Nash mentioned earlier, he says he has contacts in china i asked him to check with them, you know this is a multistream receiver, though i am 100% sure it a different openbox company from the makers of openbox V8 Combo. SX9 is from Ukraine.

Lastly i dont know if we are talking of the same person i.e Me and FTA Nash, but if it is i hold similar views as Nash had expressed.

the geolocation of the sx 9 seems right coz even most of the info about it online is in russian.
So how is the road test on openbox unfolding?

Haven't had much time to use it, i find the remote control is not that responsive, channel editing is not that great and i think the box feels bare to me. Perhaps too accustomed to srt 4950h and the Lg ln541u for my sat needs. Honestly this is an inconclusive view and i need more time with the box to form a proper opinion. My siblings though swear of its greatness and now loath the srt 4950h.

The channel list is a single list and can mix / arrange them however you like though you can scroll to the side to filter terrestrial and individual satellites. The box is great, itchy fingers i already updated the firmware to one for 29th may 2015. It has been a rainy season so i have no opinion on its sensitivity of the tuner.

Was able to connect to IPTV big list separated in categories, picked two of my wifi dongles one of which never worked with the 4950, you tube opens

To be honest am yet to properly put it to test, get home late and off to bed.

kihmathi Yes it's the same fellow you met last Friday. Hope your box is performing. It's true that Openbox SX9 originates from Europe. I have a lead that i'm following and i'm &
hoping to get some feedback this coming Monday. There are indications that it's quite a pricey device albeit capable. Will keep you posted.

Fellow ASAS,
What's the best mobile phone/Internet provider to use for IPTV with SRT 4950H in Nbi? I'm using the USB stick

I have a friend who badly needs such a decoder. Please get in touch or pm your number. I recommended the thyword decoder but he said it doesn't have HDMI port. So you are the official decoder hero

techdee, do you mean your friend is looking for an SRT 4950H or an stb with similar capabilities? Please clarify before we can assist.

Sorry I meant to quote reply muzombozi, but if you can help with the openbox decoder, I will gladly appreciate

I've just upgraded my Openbox V8 Cable with the latest software, V3.710.73, of 4/6/2015. The splash screen has changed and it has added the PowerVu feature on the Conditional Access (Key Edit) menu. The Video On Demand (VOD) feature has also been removed. I've noticed that this version of software is not very stable so if you don't need PowerVu if your decoder, I would strongly advice you not upgrade as yet.

techdee, Mr. Muzombozi is the man of the moment.
muzombozi: as you can see, this ASAS family is one warm, closely knit family that we are our brothers keepers. We don't hesitate to support each other
In the same spirit of ASAS, could you consider giving preferential rate for those brothers (and sisters?) from this great family?
I'm still strategizing on how to break the bank for this stb.
