African Satellite World and Sat Gear

Hi Katiklo and other ASAS friends.
Now this will cause some excitement in your system! Today, I could not resist the urge to add an Openbox V8 DVB-T2/S2 Combo receiver to my collection!

Thanks to KRM and Sebmjomba for contacts of possible sellers in Nairobi.

I must admit I took a very big risk ....... went and paid a stranger I have never met before in exchange for a brand new V8-Combo and went home without even testing it! I rarely take such risks but today ASAS was at its peak!

And now the GOOD NEWS .....!
At 10Pm I connected the V8-Combo to my dishes and believe it or not, it opened the SD channels of the D**g**t*k package without even loading a software or pressing 6666 to enable key edit function !! I wont be able to sleep tonight due to exceedingly abundant excitement bubbling from within me ....!

And the picture is superb too. So far I have tested with two D**g**t*k TPs namely 10804 V29900 and 10845V30000. Believe it or not, they were very stable at Quality of 25-30% and Signal of 90% ..... and it was raining abit and very cloudy. Tested also with Continental package on Amos 5 TP 11139 V 30000 around the same period and they were very stable at Quality of 70%, and great sound quality too.

I cannot explain why it's opening the 7E goodies without loading software. Am glad this now saves me from possible "bricking" / "roasting" the chipset while trying some software gotten from the net! I guess this performance is as a result of the software the Box came with ... version V3.6.167. See photos below for more details.

Another advantage of this gadget, which has exactly the same dimensions with the Skybox-F3, is that it uses an external 12V, 2Amp adapter. Hence temperature inside the box remains low. After using it for 2 hours this evening, it was still super cool unlike the Skybox which heats up you would think it can fry an egg! It also has a card slot and front USB port. The remote control is "handsome" with large keys (uses AAA-size batteries). An HDMI cable is provided.

You may check some photos below and join in the excitement. Tomorrow I will run more tests including the DVB-T2 facility. This OpenBox truly Opens stuff! I guess it will be the next big thing around the city ........

Congrats Nash for the acquisition of the receiver. Thanks for the info too. What caught my attention was the mention of getting some d*g *turk tps at low percentages. Does it mean this box has a very sensitive tuner?

chief soita same question wanted to ask if the tuner is better than strong.also if its good in blindscanning especially low symbol rate tps

Congrats Hon. FTA-Nash for the latest acquisition. I should break the bank and have one too. What is striking is the ability to pop up pictures with low quality (if it was not a typo in your write-up). That 10845 tp and most other tps carrying the d*g*t**k goodies won't pop up till you hit Q78% with 4950H, which is famed to have a very sensitive tuner. But I have also noted from other reviewers that it is also very delicate and sensitive and should be handled with care. When I grow up, I want to own that stb.

Am using a strong decoder 4922 can it get the package of bamba TV?
drols, the answer is no because as I had explained earlier, that package is on T2 platform (I stand to be corrected on this position though) and your 4922 decodes S2 signals only. As sebmjomba has explained, these two (T2 and S2) are different. However, you can catch both of these by acquiring the Openbox (which I see you have inquired about)

Thank you Mr. FTA-Nash for your kind words and elaborate review of the Openbox V8 Combo. The device is a true performer.

Mr. sebmjomba
thank you too for the referral, much appreciated.

I happen to be the stranger in question and it was a pleasure doing business with you.

I still have a few pieces with me for those who may be interested.

Gich, T2 is the second generation for terrestrial transmission, same as S2 for satellites. T and S is first generation for the same in that order. A T2 or S2 receiver should be able to receive the T or S signal of the respective medium. First generation was based on Mpeg2 while Second generation is mpeg4. Its like a smart phone will work on both 2G and 3G network but feature phones aka mulika mwizi will just stare at 3G and smile sheepishly. So a T2 should be able to receive T signals.
My two cents.

Now that we know who you are, you are no longer a stranger coz you are a member here. We will like to know it's price and if in spirit of fta there's a discount for the members.

Marto, that's a good elaboration. I hope drols is tuned in. What I was standing to be corrected is that Bamba signal is only on T2 platform and not yet on S2 platform.

Solom I can confirm that its possible to arrange T2 and S2 on one list. It also generates separate lists for each reception i.e. separate list for each satellite you scan.

Thanks KRM for the file.
Where and what exactly do you save on the stb?
I notice the file is zipped; does the stb unzip it on its own or you have to unzip it first?
I thought that you unzip the RAR file first on a flash disk, and then maybe load it in the stb?
When I unzipped the file, I got 2 files; a text file and a"SoftCam" file plus a folder containing
yet another "SoftCam" file.
Kindly please clarify more on this. Thanks.

Wish i had known about this box b4 purchasing my 4950h...

Happy for you FTA Nash, but as i said, you have to be cautious on what you force it swallow. Avoid any forced upgrade. Never press menu key during start up when a usb stick is in.
Enjoy
Okay. Will take extra precaution. Thanks.
