African Satellite World and Sat Gear

African Satellite World and Sat Gear

The 3 analogue sisters f***ed up and are continuing to, but still they need fair refereeing in resolving this dispute. The Communications Authority has basically taken sides in this war. All in all, this battle is getting uglier as days pass. Is this migration thing causing ripples elsewhere apart from Kenya!

to be frank i blame ca as a regulator you should be neutral.the paytv are taking advantage of fta channels that shouldnt be charged while signet is a lousy multiplexer with inferior video and audio hiccups.

ubc on amos 5 is off air again.....

"UBC IS THE OFFICIAL FTA BROADCASTER OF AFCON 2015 TOURNAMENT .PAY TV CHANNELS, NAMELY: AZAM, ZUKU AND STAR TIMES HAVE NO RIGHT TO CARRY UBC TV BROADCAST OF THE GAMES AS PART OF THEIR BOUQUET. ANY STATION THAT VIOLATES THESE RIGHTS DOES SO AT THEIR OWN RISK."

This is a warning dispalyed during live games on UBC.It seems FTA is sometimes better than paytv.

The biggest culprit here is a super ignorant public who have absolutely no clue about how digital tv is supposed to work. They have no problem paying for lousy products just because everyone else is doing the same.

majority dont know how digital works thinking you have to pay to enjoy.the schemes paytv are using to lure kenyans with two months free subscription which is never fulfilled and others going to an extend of lying that you will watch local channels for free only to be misled by the sellers who are out to make money on setboxes.

oromia TV showing AFCON GABON VS CONGO Live. pic quality is poor, nowhere near Eurosport or AFNEX

statement from
Citizen TV Kenya
EDITORIAL MESSAGE: The decision by the
Communications Authority of Kenya to withdraw
the licencing authorization given to the Africa
Digital Network, a consortium of the Royal
Media Services, the Nation Media Group and the
Standard Group, today must be condemned as a
blatant and irresponsible abuse of responsibility
by a public-funded entity.
With a stroke of the pen, the regulator has
taken the unprecedented decision to kill off
Kenyan businesses funded through sweat and
tears in order to protect the interests of two
foreign companies
CAK claims its action was informed by the media
houses decision to sponsor and air an
advertisement advising their viewers that these
two foreign companies, StarTimes, a Chinese
Company and Gotv a South African Company
were airing the contents of the three
broadcasters without consent, a clear
infringement on intellectual property rights was
an act of sabotage. Our positions is that is
immoral and unjustifiable especially where
Startimes and GoTV use the content we generate
at our own expense to further financial profit
motives.
It is why we are asking viewers keen on
accessing their content to wait for our custom-
made set top boxes. This will also help enable us
to own and safeguard the integrity of the
content we make available to our viewers.
We reiterate that we are not against digital
migration. What we are fighting for is a level
playing field where we will have an opportunity
to compete fairly with others.

Some shops on lithuli are ripping us off. recently I visited a shop and bought strong 4922HD for Ksh 5500. While other seasoned shops are selling at 6500.

How is its perfomance as compared to previous 4922a please?

Hallo Gich, It has been Off since yesterday evening till now it is still red.Maybe you can confirm or somebody else can confirm.I had to watch the Cameroun match on Ubc which popped up yesterday.
Katiklo, sorry for not getting back to you earlier. I tried to connect to the Internet whole evening yesterday in vain. That tells you the IPTV that our receivers support is a long pipe dream at the moment.
Yes, I am still enjoying the games on CRTV. I am getting upto 90% signal quality on this tp.

Maybe what is needed in this "game" is for the CAK to do something similar to what happens with the mobile phone service providers: what they call "inter-connection rates / tariffs". That is, following industry-wide discussion and consensus, document what one DVB-T2 service provider will pay the other per minute to air their content on another network / platform. Then everyone will be in "business" and happy to air all local channels in FTA!

the soap opera continues
am waiting for the promised breakdown by S.K Macharia.

Journalist Wahome Thuku: I
have never met anyone who
knows the digital migration, its
politics, technology, mischief
and its global trend like S.K.
Macharia.

Yesterday the Royal Media Service
chairman S.K Macharia, NMG chairman
Wilfred Kiboro, and SC Paul Muite gave
me and a few colleagues an 8-hour
lecture on what exactly is happening in
this business of digital TV migration.
About 60% of the lectures were on
things which 95% of Kenyan I included
have never heard.
I have never met anyone who knows the
digital migration, its politics,
technology, mischief and its global
trend like S.K. Macharia.
It was an 8 hour lecture on exactly how
our TV industry has been auctioned to
some Chinese and other foreign
entitites.
I wont even attempt to post details here
because we will be breaking it down for
all Kenyans systematically and in an
organised manner.
This is one national debate I will ask
you to follow from the start becuase we
will be placing before you nothing but
the facts, leaving you to judge. After
being taken through it yesterday I felt
so pained as a Kenyan.
I could just take that digital set box in
my house and throwing it in River Gura
and stay analogue. You dont have to
engage me for now untill we give you
the knowledge and the facts.
I can only promise you that by the time
we will be done explaining it, you will
never again buy those GoTv and
Startime boxes. You can bet with me on
that.
