African Satellite World and Sat Gear

African Satellite World and Sat Gear

Just how free are they? I got the painful memories of the current service providers (read Dstv and Zuku) proclaiming the local mux would be truly fta upon expiry of subscription at the time of their launch, only to renege on the same a few months down the line. StarSat seems to claim the same, but I read a hidden persuader in this; a mere marketing gimmick that they would sooner dispense with hiding behind some obscure clause in the legalese that is the contract skewed in their favour(Probably only leaving you with the not so beloved KBC).

If it were within my power, then the conundrum that is the digital migration in this country would have been sorted in one fell swoop by the government leasing space on one sat (preferably SES 5) and demanding that the current broadcasters upload content fta on it. It would save us the hassle of buying an stb only to be told Gotv or startimes is yet to reach this town etc etc.

The case is more concrete if you bring in regional integration into the flux. It would offer expanded market to products if for example by housing all the local tv stations in subsaharan Africa on one bird, an Ethiopian working in Botwana say can watch ETV as would a Kenyan living in Cameroon keep up with 'Churchill Live' on NTV. Frankly this terrestrial broadcasting, digital or otherwise, is very limited in reach. Perhaps our friends in the MENA region thought well ahead of us with Nilesat.

They think -and rightly so -that few people are aware or able to implement a sat set up. Most people know any dish is dstv. They aren't even aware there are fta terrestrial recievers. pay tv does well due to people's ignorance but not their content.

KENYAMUX video-clear on Eutelsat 10a @10e (c-band). Tp: 12019V10321.

GBS, NTV, KTN, K24, KBC, Sayare, Citizen.

Nay, its c-band as I've indicated above. For best results you will require a 240cm pf dish. Try 3729V10321.

Good afternoon patron

A friend told me that even with 2.4m pf Dish, that TP show red during the day but come to life in the evening. please confirm.

Hi Jey, at my end this tp is ever green 24/7. Currently Signal Quality @75 percent and above.

Depending on your location, generally 240cm ought to perform far better than your friend's.

Eutelsat and Spacecom create unified neighbourhood at Africa’s leading Free-To-Air satellite TV position, 16-17° East Paris, Tel-Aviv, 19 November 2014 –

Eutelsat Communications (NYSE Euronext: Paris) and Spacecom (TASE:SCC) today announced the signature of a partnership agreement that will drive expansion of digital entertainment services at one of Africa’s fastest-growing video neighbourhoods.

The two companies have established a framework for cross-commercialisation of Ku-band capacity connected to the high-power African service areas of Eutelsat’s EUTELSAT 16A satellite at 16° East and Spacecom’s AMOS-5 satellite at 17° East. The combined channel line-up of both satellites already comprises over 100 free-to-air African and international channels that can be received by standard 80cm dishes in a vast footprint covering over 30 million TV homes located notably in Francophone Africa and extending to Ghana and Nigeria.

Accra, Paris, 7 November 2014 — Eutelsat Communications (NYSE Euronext Paris: ETL) announces it has sealed a ten-year contract with Crystal TV, Ghana's leading commercial broadcaster, for capacity connected to the African service area of the EUTELSAT 16A satellite. The capacity enables Crystal TV to benefit from countrywide coverage of Ghana for its digital platform of pay-TV and free-to-air channels.

Access to EUTELSAT 16A transforms Crystal TV into a nationwide provider of digital broadcast services. The company's current subscription-free premium television content, including its branded channels - Crystal TV Prime, Crystal TV Plus and Crystal TV Xtra - has until now been limited to terrestrial reception in Ghana’s main urban areas in Accra, the Ashanti Region and parts of the country’s Eastern and Central regions.

Crystal TV has selected the high-power Sub-Saharan African footprint of the EUTELSAT 16A satellite to extend access to homes beyond range of terrestrial reception. Channels uplinked by Crystal TV to EUTELSAT 16A are available to DTH homes equipped with a digital decoder and an access card for pay-TV content.

Depends on your location. Guys in northern Kenya say the get it with a 90cm offset while us in western Kenya manage it with a 120cm offset and larger. I prefer offset dishes over PFs.
