Been following the posts of comrades here and realized our insatiable thirst for bigger dishes is just incredible. Like Ilish had put it most ASAS patients in other parts of the world are building their own BUD dishes. I am a member of different forums and i can say the pakistanis are way ahead from the snap shots below got from Satellite Guide with Indian Television Media News and Updates.

Hope the appetite for BUDS is magnified. Wasee this designs can be achieved ama?
Food for thought
Chief, Quite innovative. Need to get afew parameters right: Diameter, Depth, Focal Length; F/D Ratio; Gain; Aperture efficiency, etc. These should guide making of a mold too. The dish in your photos is covered with mesh for C-Band purpose. By replacing this with suitable metal foil (not the glossy type), it can be adapted for Ku-Band.

Hello ASAS mates

For offset you have many options such as Samson, Eurostar ESKD QP4 Gold, Inverto Black Ultra Quad.

Hello, I have recently acquired a 3rd hand 8ft solid pf dish. Are there any disadvantages of mounting it on the ground as opposed to slightly elevating it? Trying to read up on ground noise but so far nothing helpful. Weekend project to hunt for 7E europe beam.

Bro Through Cccam / Mgcamed , you can watch Nilesat [ OSN+Pehla+Art+MBC HD+Bein Sports ] Packages free
Like FTA
Kindly expound more on this, I am a big fan of the OSN family, but the price tends to chase me away..Any assistance would highly be appreciated

QTV (Kenya) is now back on eutelsat 10a@10e. Lets hope KTN & NTV will follow suit. For one reason or another Citizen tv was never fta here prior to the infamous Digital Migration Row.

I am just wondering could this entrance be a backyard truce of sorts between St*rtimes and SMG?

More Inspiration: Yes We Can!
In January 2010, I came across this article on another forum (Nairaland). Guys were testing a home-made 5 meter dish with pleasant results. For more information, refer to: http://www.nairaland.com/331817/official-thread-free-air-satellite/79

1-DISH FEATURES:
It is a standard steel constructed dish with aluminium made parabolic face
With total diameter of 5 meter in size, the dish is capable of an azimuth movement of 270 degrees between left and right and also having a focal length of 73 inches.
It is driven by two jacks, using one for the azimuth turn and the other for the elevation.

2-DISH INSTALLATION:
The installation of the dish takes a minimum of about 4-5 days by 2-3 people.

The construction of the dish basement takes an average of 10 bags of cement depending on how strong u want it and it takes two days to dry at an average.

The assembling of the dish stand and the parabolic base takes about two days too.

The tracking takes as much time as you want since you will have to keep tracking everything that is trackable, and finally the cabling.

The dish is fitted with two Ku-band scaler rings and each of the rings carries a Ku LNB fitted with brass rings to make it a prime focus LNB to boost the signal reception. One of the LNB is centered and the other one is offset.

The centered one is an echosat quad LNB and the offset one is a Digisat quad LNB.
Both LNBs are positioned inversely against each other (because of polarity challenge between providers on the east and on the west due to the azimuth movement nature of the dish.

3-DISH POSITIONING:
The dish was able to track Hotbird, Nilesat (signal was out of reach with smaller dishes those days) with quality of up to 80%. A total of 130 transponders and 1367 channels on Hotbird were received. Other satellites received were Badr, Astra, Eurobird9, Eutelsat w2, Amos, Atlantic bird 3 and thor 5.

With determination, resources and time in our hands, these feats are achievable in East Africa too! Just food for thought.

Try Inverto Ultra Black single or Quad LNB.

I think am the newest and youngest member here and in the world of FTA and Sats.....so with me I have a 90cm Eurostar dish..this decoder for Qsat I bought seems not to help me much bcoz of the frequent freezes and server downtime from chinkus..Am relying on this forum for advise..can I use the decoder to find Fta channels on other satellites..or will i have to buy the much praised Strong 4922 i have been reading here ...counting on your help guys

By the way, I've recently noticed both Capital Tv Tz and Kanal 4 are screening re-runs of Prison Break. Caught up with one episode on Capital today at 1200Hrs.

I know you from somewhere, don't i? We must've met in the other crazy village, KList😕. All the same, karibu sana katika hiki kijiji cha wana-FTA. One way to know whether it works well as an FTA decoder is to observe whether, besides your usual tp of interest (Eutelsat 36 A/B, right?:evil🙂, it receives other tps as well. If it does, by all means feel free to swing that dish to another bird. I say let the hunting begin! Karibu sana once more and feel at home. 😛hoto:

The app is from Satellite Finder / Dish Alignment Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com. I have no smart phone or ipad/iphone, so i have never used it. But i input my data on the said site on the pc :typing: and it does the math. It does not point me anywhere. The pc is dumb:laugh:.

Seems the app I alluded to earlier can sort out such issues as dish alignment and line-of-sight obstructions on location as well. I finally located the site: Satellite AR: Satellite tracking with augmented reality on Android

Given the typical TV satellite are parked in geostationary orbits (and by extension are not moving relative to our position on the earth's surface) , it would be interesting to see exactly what they mean when they say you can see the satellite flying overhead.

Here is a peek of their homepage;

Point your Android phone at the sky and see actual satellites flying overhead.

[h=2]About this app[/h]Ever wondered what satellites are flying above your head when you look up? This app will show them to you using augmented reality. Point your phone's camera to the sky, and small icons track the locations of various satellites. For many, a line indicates their projected path across the sky. Those flying in sunlight are labeled in yellow, and those in the shadow of the Earth or Moon, in blue.
This yellow and blue coloring is useful to casual observers who go out looking at the night sky for satellites. Typically, those in shadow (blue) are not visible at all, while satellites in Sun (yellow) may be visible even to the naked eye, depending on size, altitude, and other factors. The best time to spot satellites is often just after dusk or just before dawn, when the Earth's shadow is at a steep enough angle from the observer's point of view that the satellites above are still lit by direct sunlight.
The app also contains a simple star map. The brightest 2000 stars are shown as white dots on the screen, to help the user align the app's display with the sky above.

indeed. One idea would be to incorporate it into the architecture of a side structure eg a hen house. that way it would be less obstrusive.
