African Satellite World and Sat Gear

For sure though I have a tuner combo box that I can connect with a VGA cable to my laptop, (wait, well, actually I am not sure whether it can be done!) If it cannot then I will go the portable DVD way.
They say that necessity is the mother of invention!

Actually there's a Freesat V8 that I came across in Kilimall yesterday that was going for around Ksh.5800.
It's greed for quick riches coupled with uninformed consumers.....
you cannot connect your V8 to your laptop via VGA. The VGA port on your laptop is for Video output (to monitor) not video input

hi guyz wana try n get apstar or is20 using my pauxis combo lnb currently im on is20 ku band on inverto lnb if i switch that lnb for the pauxis combo lnb wil i get both c/kuband channels

You are supposed to. but that lnb is inherently weak. Couldn't get the coveted 68.5 c band goodies on an 8ft with it.

then there is the issue of skew. you need to bring the upper KU part apart to set its skew independently and that will require a special type of screw driver. I doubt if you have it.

Prices are dropping though as Chinese produce iterations of popular brands like sat link. And Luthuli Wolves will obviously rip you off.

Exactly the finder I was talking of above. I saw it on Kilimall yesterday.
Things are looking nice, then this would be better instead of extending power cable, and carrying the player and decoder to the roof.

I thought so too, I doubted.....though it's a combo box I were to, those Gadmei boxes that connected to your TFT to make it a TV monitor. Thanks..

you could get yourself this. connects to comp via USB then to decoder

While a proper sat meter would be ideal, I in the interim propose you bundle together the 4922 with any of the affordable portable DVD players (about 3K to 5K), which sit comfortably atop the 4922, plus a length of electric cable and climb up the roof with the gear. I currently use the same and it does not disappoint. Indeed a press of the button on the blind search option as you slowly change the elevation and azimuth delivers fairly quickly. The beauty about this is that what-you-get-on-the-roof-is-what-you-get-in-the-house.

I personally find the usual meters very expensive for reasons I don't know, yet they are miniaturized versions of a screen and decoder together. Indeed a search on OLX and Jumia shows you will pay upwards of 14K for even the most basic ones like the Freesat V8 HD Satellite finder without a spectrum analyzer. Maybe the Li-Ion battery plus portability pushes up the cost
How do you combine the 4922 to the DVD-LNB-Screen ?

The portable DVD player has a screen that allows external video input. Now lnb to the 4922. 4922 video out to portable dvd player. Dvd player to your eyes.
Power to
both decoder and dvd player (needs a long cable)

For this method to be more effective, a wailing beeper should be introduced between 4922 and lnb

The typical portable DVD player comes with its RCA connector with a single port on the player and the 3 (red, white and yellow) for the decoder. I simply place the player on top of the decoder and loop an elastic band (think along the lines on a strip of bicycle tube)to link the two. The cable from the lnb goes to its port on the decoder.

The other plus the player offers is that its screen can turn through 360 degrees which I find useful when you are on the roof and and the sun's rays make it difficult to monitor the bar on the screen.

Am however in the market for an older version of the SRT decoder that offers what would nearly qualify as a spectrum analyzer (A beautiful GUI showing signal variation among others). I saw this with a fella I invited to help be nab Nilesat the very first time I cut my teeth in fta. I highly suspect they could be available at Nawal Centre in Mombasa, coz I saw them there several years ago, but is quite a distance from the town presently. Could any one down there confirm.

Quite encouraging a trend this. On the flip side, it's great selling point(portability) might be it's undoing going by the reviews I have been reading about online. Seems that it's battery which should theoretically give you 4-hours use on a full charge, normally degrades within a short time, with some users reporting it barely retains any charge after merely 3 months of use. May be these are the outliers anyway

Sounds like an improvisation I will gladly take up since I have some Discovery beeper lying idle somewhere. Thanks

All about Satellite tv, both FTA free to air and paytv available in Africa.

Sat gear in use plus more....
are these fta channels still exist on satellites? could i manage to get over 80 channels using 8 ft dish more than two lnb and mediacom receiver?

What happened to all the mbc and boxes on tsv 3w? Dubai one now showing Rt news. And there's and ' one love family' channel showing "sat guru Maharaji' interview on loop. These guys
