Five Kenyan police officers are dead after suspected Islamist al-Shabab militants attacked a police convoy as it traveled through the northeastern part of the country, a local official said.

The police were providing security for a bus near the town of Elwak, near the Somalian border, when the militants blew up their vehicle with what is believed to be a rocket-propelled grenade.

"We condemn the attack by al-Shabab at Dimu this morning, five police officers killed," Mandera County Governor Ali Roba said on his Twitter account.

Al-Shabab, the al-Qaida affiliate in East Africa, is based in Somalia and routinely stages attacks in Kenya. The Kenyan border with Somalia is seen as a weak spot for security due to its remoteness and the lack of coordination between police forces on either side.

Compare that with the 49 Americans killed by an ISIL sympathizer, and not forgetting the French and Belgian attarcks and you'll realize that some of the most developed republics in an area also tend to be the most targeted.

Not an entirely new or isolated incident.

Kenyans decision #now, either muendelee kuaawa au withdraw hakuna atayewacheka....... Tumechoka Kusikia kila siku mauaji

After all these I don't understand how someone manages to see any good from alshabaab.

I am sorry to say that Your brain is shit!!,whoever who sees himself safe while his neighbor is under attack/constant threat then he is a shit.inawezekana wewe ni Mtanzania mwenzangu lakini kitendo cha kushabikia ugaidi kwa sababu zozote zile kinakufanya usiwe mmoja wetu.

Ukae ukijua kwamba hata kama President Uhuru ataondoa majeshi yake huko Somalia haitamaanisha kuwa Alshabaab ndio itakuwa imekufa, these people are designed to ruin the world and they will always come back with another excuse to justify their killings.

vilevile ujue ya kwamba kama wameweza kufanya hivyo Kenya they can also do it in Tanzania,it is just a matter of time.

Police mmoja analinda raia wangapi!?
naona hujitakbui

Xplorer, well said brother. Mengi ya kiuchumu tutatofautiana lakini when it comes to security threats, especially by terrorists traversing borders, unity is all that is needed. Once your neighbor falls you could be next, ndio maana tuko Somalia sote twajaribu kuwaokoa ili nasi tujiokoe wenyewe katika ukanda huu.

Motochini, the very high police to citizens ratios in Belgium, France and the US and the very long distance from these nations to terrorist bases. never stopped the attacks. And that is because terrorists blend in and meticulously strategize their attacks.
