One person has been shot dead after a group of suspected attackers armed with pangas raided Bugoye Sub-County Police Station in Kasese District early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at around 2am on October 1, 2026, when about six people reportedly attacked the police station and attempted to disarm an officer on duty.

Police said the officer resisted and shot one of the attackers in the leg. The injured suspect fled the scene but was later found dead a short distance from the police station.

The identity of the deceased had not been established by the time of reporting. His body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Four suspects have since been arrested in connection with the attack. They are identified as Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi.

Police also recovered a panga from the scene, while investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and trace the suspects who fled.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify or locate the suspects still at large to report to the nearest police station.
