Zim man arrested for insulting Mugabe

Eyewitness News

Police are looking for a man in Zimbabwe who skipped bail after he allegedly called President Robert Mugabe a baboon.

Private press in Zimbabwe reported that the 34-year-old was first arrested when police overheard him insulting the president.

Reports said prosecutors issued a warrant of arrest for the man who comes from Masvingo.

Authorities allegedly overheard him calling Mugabe “useless”, saying he was “just a baboon”.

In Zimbabwe, it is a criminal offence to insult the 87-year-old leader.

Earlier in 2011, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) minister Jameson Timba was arrested for allegedly calling Mugabe a liar.
