Several people have died or been seriously injured in separate incidents linked to domestic disputes across Zimbabwe, according to police.
In Zhombe, Midlands, two children died after their mother allegedly gave them poison before ingesting the substance herself following a dispute with her husband over alleged infidelity.
Police identified the children as Shyne Tavatya, 6, and Sean Tavatya, 9. Their mother, Emily Takadii, 23, was also hospitalised in critical condition.
In Glen View 3, Harare, a married couple, Nyasha Mhungu, 35, and Olga Muzhingi, 30, were found dead in their bedroom. Police said the couple had reportedly been experiencing marital problems, but investigations are still underway to establish what happened.
In Mukumbura, Mashonaland Central, Robert Tashinga, 50, allegedly killed his wife, Nollent Sinosi, 36, with an axe following a dispute over alleged infidelity. He reportedly fled the scene and is wanted by police.
Police also arrested Kudakwashe Rangarirai, 27, in connection with the death of his two-year-old stepson in Mvurwi and an attack that left his wife critically injured.
In Kariba, police arrested Emmanuel Mpofu, 33, after he allegedly severely assaulted his wife following a dispute over alleged infidelity.
Police have expressed concern over the number of cases involving murder, attempted murder and suicide arising from domestic disputes.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged people facing family conflicts to seek help through counselling and trusted third parties, including traditional and religious leaders and professional counsellors.
Domestic conflict can escalate quickly. Seeking help early can prevent disagreements from turning into irreversible harm.
