Works Minister Orders Contractor Off Northern Bypass Project Over Delays

The Minister of State for Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, has ordered the contractor working on the 21-kilometre Northern Bypass to vacate the site, citing unacceptable delays and poor quality work.

Speaking during an inspection of the project, Byamukama expressed frustration that the road has been under maintenance for more than three years despite its relatively short length.

"It is only 21 kilometres long, yet they have been maintaining it for over three years. This is unacceptable. I am very dissatisfied with the progress and the quality of the work on this road. By Monday, they should collect their equipment and leave the site," the minister said.

His remarks come amid growing public frustration over the prolonged construction works, which have caused heavy traffic congestion and disrupted movement along one of Kampala's busiest road corridors.

The minister's directive signals the government's dissatisfaction with the contractor's performance as motorists continue to endure delays on the project.
The minister also announced that there will be several arrests happening in the ministry of works, citing that there have been many corrupt officials in the ministries embezzling funds meant for road construction.
