VIDEO: Byamukama Shocked by Seven Year Delay on Biiso–Masindi Road

Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama has expressed concern over the delayed completion of the 45-kilometre Biiso–Masindi Road, which has been under construction for seven years.


Buliisa MP Allan Atugonza told the minister that works on the road began in 2019 and are being carried out by China Railway Construction Company (CRCC).


Atugonza also raised concerns about the impact of rock blasting on communities along the project. He said the blasting allegedly destroyed homes, crops and a water source serving three villages.


According to Atugonza, some residents affected by the blasting have not yet received compensation, while no alternative safe water sources have been provided.


Byamukama expressed shock at the length of time taken to complete the project and the concerns raised by residents.

Update:
The contractor for the 47km Masindi-Biiso road, China Railway Seventh Group Company Limited (CRSG), must complete the long-delayed project by February 2027, Works and Transport minister Fred Byamukama has directed.

Byamukama issued the directive on Thursday while inspecting the road, which is among critical oil roads being constructed in the Bunyoro sub-region.

The broader road project covers 106km, comprising the Masindi-Biiso (47km), Kabaale-Kiziranfumbi and Hohwa-Nyairongo-Kyarushesha-Butoole roads, at a combined cost of Shs 504 billion.
