Today the White House has released the "long-form" version of Obama's birth certificate and the president is to make a live statement shortly. The birth certificate says Obama was born in the state of Hawaii, which makes him eligible to hold the office of president. Obama had earlier released a standard short form, but requested copies of his original birth certificate from Hawaii officials this week.

Chris Matthews, Pat Buchanan Fight Over Obama's Academic Qualifications (VIDEO)

Chris Matthews and Pat Buchanan got into a long argument on Tuesday's "Hardball" about President Obama's academic credentials.
The clash was precipitated by (surprise, surprise) Donald Trump, who has said he doesn't think Obama was qualified to go to Harvard or Columbia, and was suspicious about how he was admitted to both schools. Buchanan said he supported Trump's curiosity.
"These are legitimate questions!" he exclaimed, wondering why Matthews was supporting what he called Obama's "right to conceal" his academic records. He guessed that Obama's rise through the Ivy League ranks was "affirmative action all the way."
"Why is it your guess?" Matthews asked. "...How do you make these assumptions? Do you know how this bothers people that you make these charges?"
"What I want to know is why you don't want to see the test scores?" Buchanan shot back. "Why don't you want to see any of these things? You're supposed to be a journalist! The people's right to know!"
"What am i supposed to become a master of his paperwork?" Matthews said. He told Buchanan that his arguments were one of the reasons that black Americans were often driven "crazy" by political discourse. Obama, he pointed out, had, by all accounts, had a stellar academic career, "and you still don't buy it. You don't buy him." He noted that "I got my job here without ever showing any paperwork from school."

White House releases Obama birth certificate




The White House on Wednesday morning released the president's long form birth certificate (pdf) in an attempt to put "birther" questions to rest.

"The President believed the distraction over his birth certificate wasn't good for the country. It may have been good politics and good T.V., but it was bad for the American people and distracting from the many challenges we face as a country," White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said in a statement.

The president had released his certificate of live birth in 2008, but many "birthers" said the absence of a long form birth certificate prompted questions about Obama's birthplace of Hawaii. In recent weeks potential GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has brought birther questions into the forefront of the media.

"At a time of great consequence for this country--when we should be debating how we win the future, reduce our deficit, deal with high gas prices, and bring stability to the Middle East, Washington, DC, was once again distracted by a fake issue," Pfeiffer said. "The President's hope is that with this step, we can move on to debating the bigger issues that matter to the American people and the future of the country."

Obama admitted at a White House press conference following the document's release Wednesday morning that he's been both amused and puzzled by the degree to which his place of birth has become an issue.

The president echoed Pfeiffer's statements saying that Americans and their representatives need to come together to solve issues such as how to "invest in our future" while tackling the federal deficit and federal debt:

But we're not going to be able to do it if we are distracted. We're not going to be able to do it if we spend time vilifying each other. We're not going to be able to do it if we just make stuff up and pretend that facts are not facts. We're not going to be able to solve our problems if we get distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers.

Though the president didn't mention Trump by name, Obama noted that when he announced his deficit plan this month, his birth certificate, not our country's economic future, dominated the news that week.

Trump on Wednesday took full credit for the release.

"I feel I've accomplished something really really important and I'm honored by it," Trump said at a press conference held during his pre-scheduled visit today to New Hampshire. Trump noted that people have long been requesting the document, but Trump was the only one who got the president to release it. Trump suggested Wednesday this development will boost his own potential presidential candidacy.

Trump said he and others are still going to have to assess the document's authenticity. We're "going to look at it. We have to see if it's real, if it's proper," Trump said. But he added that he's "sure it's the right deal" and is looking forward to moving on to more important issues such as OPEC and China.

I am not a birther. But I think Obama himself was playing politics with the issue. He could have nipped it in the bud long ago but he didn't.

Ask yourself, why release it now and not two or three years ago when the noise began? Some speculate that they looked at the polls and saw some numbers that got them worried. Remember, a lie told often enough becomes the truth.

My thing (is) was, if he had the long form why not just release it? I know it was silly but if it were me I would have released it moons ago.

‘Birther' netizens are already calling Obama's birth certificate fake.
Karl Denninger of market-ticker.org listed the following alleged inconsistencies:

1. Definition of document background is inconsistent. It's sharper around the edges and blurred around the center.
2. "Date Accepted by Reg. General" field has inconsistent color depth on the "AUG," "-," and "6."
3. "Department of Health" field's number "1" is inconsistent with the other numbers before it.
4. No color fringes around the letters, no matter far it's magnified. The allegation is that the letters weren't originally printed on the colored paper, but rather assembled from elsewhere.
A netizen named 3TruthSeeker33 had the following allegations:

The PDF document, when loaded to Adobe Illustrator, shows "layers." When the layers are stripped back, most of the letters on the document are removed. The allegation is that the letters have been assembled from somewhere else.
The first picture below shows 3TruthSeeker33's Adobe Illustrator displaying the layers. The second one shows what happens when he takes them off.
Obama, in addition to releasing his two birth documents, said the following in his defense: "we've had every official in Hawaii, Democrat and Republican, every news outlet that has investigated this, confirm that, yes, in fact, I was born in Hawaii, August 4, 1961, in Kapiolani Hospital."
The President also anticipated this reaction from the ‘birthers.' He said: "I know that there's going to be a segment of people for which, no matter what we put out, this issue will not be put to rest."
