Escaped from Sobibor, gassed at Auschwitz before freezing to death on the outskirts of Moscow. I’m not expecting anyone to forget how Ill equipped the Nazi's were for one of the coldest Russian winters. Eye lids?, dropping, frost bitten legs?, amputated, food?, frozen. Not to say that Hitler wasn’t warned by his generals about the impending calamity. He ignored the advice and ordered the siege of Moscow anyway.
Dear me, the haunted never sleep. The dead never rise again, zombies are fictional, revenge is a dish best served cold.

A hot and humid day in the city of Dar Es Salaam. Traffic jam after traffic jam, crowded street upon jammed boulevards, poor sanitation in the ever so suffocating Kariakoo Market. To what end?. You call Yahaya, the master of the game. He happens to have the “Elimu dunia” from the school of hard knocks. A typical day would involve him brokering the sale of used smartphones and on the good days, used cars. His much anticipated lunch break usually ends with him munching on a bowl of tongue soup with boiled utumbo as a side dish. Don’t let me get started on how Yahaya spends his evening. Bottle after bottle of Konyagi, on the rocks, with his gang, as he burns through the money he made during the day. A night out is never complete without Yahaya leaving the pub with Wendy, the bar maid. A bag full of tricks the following day as he has to get his shylock off his back. Money lender after money lender, party after party, a vicious cycle that ultimately ends with Yahaya penniless. You can take Yahaya out of the hood but you definitely can’t take the hood out of Yahaya.

You’re probably wondering what the Macho man Yahaya is up to. A stud with a magnetic pool strong enough to attract every Jane, lily and Jennifer. Behind the appearance of a man who can walk the talk is a fragile little boy who can’t keep it together. He strives so hard to get the “Heshima ya bar” with the gang and bunch of pretty little girls but is clearly not equipped for the big stage.
Characters like Yahaya are more likely to fill plate after plate of food at Dar Es Salaam’s Serena hotel only to end up vomiting as they rush to the restroom. I’m not expecting anyone to miss the day Yahaya’s indulgence led to him scrubbing the floors at Cape Town fish market after failing to pay his bill.

Real men don’t need to seek approval from others over cheap thrills. Real men can go without a drink for years even when they have no one to talk to when they get back home. Intelligence, integrity and drive are deeply instilled even under minimum supervision.

Responsibilities become second nature even in situations where most would throw in the towel. Don’t be fooled by the karate kid or anyone like Yahaya because most of the time, characters like this compensate for extreme cases insecurity. Indeed, only the toughest, brightest and fastest can survive an onslaught at Masaki

Yahaya unaishi wapi?
