Former Ethics Minister Miria Matembe has been charged with promoting sectarianism over remarks she made during a widely circulated interview on DK TV.

According to the prosecution, Matembe's comments alleged that Uganda's government and key state institutions were being dominated by a single ethnic group and that appointments to senior positions were made along ethnic lines. Authorities contend that the statements were likely to promote sectarianism, leading to the charges against the veteran politician.

The interview, which quickly spread across social media, also featured Matembe questioning President Yoweri Museveni about what kind of legacy he would be leaving behind after everything her fought for. In the interview, she emphasizes that she is in no way insulting the president but simply appealing to him to remember what he fought for.

"President Museveni, my brother, how can you be the one that sends us back to the times of Amin?? " the senior citizen wondered.
Sge furher went ahead to pray to God to arrest the first son and chief of defence forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Just days after the interview aired, her home was raided by security operatives who found that she was not at home at the time. She was subsequently arrested over the weekend and presented in court on Tuesday, where she was charged with sectarianism and remanded to Luzira.

Matembe's arrest sparked widespread debate, with supporters arguing that she was exercising her constitutional right to freedom of expression, while authorities insist the law prohibits speech that promotes sectarianism or could incite divisions among Ugandans.
