Abstract
We show in this work that in a real experiment, the decomposition of CaCO proceeds under variable extents of the departure from the ideal reaction conditions for a chemical rate determining step and the approach to equilibrium reaction conditions. The driving force to equilibrium reaction conditions is determined by the difference between the enthalpy change ΔH of the equilibrium reaction and the activation energy Ea according to the hypothetical chemical rate limiting step which fails to emerge. The variation of the apparent kinetic parameters Ea′ and A′ arises because the intermediate values of Ea′ between the extreme values Ea′ = Ea and Ea′ = ΔH are obtained depending on the variation of the heat demand of the endothermic interface chemical reaction, and the CO partial pressure. As Ea′ decreases, the driving forceto equilibrium reaction conditions decreases until the experiment gives the apparent activation energy Ea′ equal to the enthalpy change ΔH. This is when the pressure of CO becomes equal to the equilibrium pressure of CO. In this way we explain the physical significance of the variation of kinetic parameters.
