Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli has found himself on the receiving end after one of his followers blasted him for lying Tanzania had been elevated to a middle-income country by the World Bank.

Ideally, Tanzania had moved from $1,020 Gross National Income (GNI) per capita to $1,080 per capita entering the lower-middle-income category which is between $1,036 to 4,045 GNI per capita.
The GNI per capita is usually influenced by factors such as economic growth, inflation, exchange rates, and population growth.
To keep the income classification thresholds fixed in real terms, the scale for categorising countries is usually adjusted annually for inflation using the Special Drawing Rights (SDR) deflator.
The analysis is usually done on July 1 every year.
Another African country that moved to the lower-middle-income category was Benin with GNI per capita of $ 1,250.
The latest achievement puts Tanzania in the same category with Kenya.
