Minister of Works and Transport Fred Byamukama has given Chongqing International Construction Company until July 2027 to complete the Shs220 billion, 21-kilometre Kyaliwajjala–Kira–Kasangati–Matugga Road project, which has been stalled for the past two years.

During an inspection of the project, Byamukama directed the contractor to immediately accelerate works, noting that the government had resolved key land acquisition challenges and would complete compensation for the remaining project-affected persons to remove the final obstacles to construction.

He instructed the contractor to deliver the Kyaliwajjala–Kira–Kasangati section up to the Junction by December 2026, while maintaining regular dust suppression and road maintenance on all sections under construction. He stressed that the entire project must be completed by July 2027, saying delays continue to cost residents valuable time, business, and economic opportunities.
