The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) is studying the possibility of introducing digital marking of final examinations as the number of candidates continues to grow.
UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo said the cost of administering examinations, including marking scripts, is increasing faster than the number of candidates.
“The main reason we are studying digital marking is to cut costs and manage our examinations well,” Odongo said.
He clarified that the initiative is still at the preliminary study stage and has not yet been approved.
“Once we conclude this study, we will then take it to our governing board, before we present it to other authorities for approval,” he said.
If approved, digital marking would shift examiners from handling physical answer scripts to marking scanned or digitally captured scripts through an electronic system.
