Ufugaji wa mbwa kibiashara na dog training

Hello JF,

The other day I posted that I was selling a dog for $2000 and the responses I got,well while some were appreciative others were down sarcastic but most of all misinformed about the dog world.

We all know dogs from a distance but very few people actually do understand what dog husbandry is.What it takes to keep a good dog and what makes dogs happy and healthy.

I therefore decided to start this link to offer information from experience on dog training,feeding,health issues,breeding and behaviour.

I will be posting informational pieces on topics selected by the public and also videos of the dogs I am currently training.

Youre welcome.Unaweza kua trainer pia but you need to dedicate yourself to it.it requires a lot of patience and repetitions.If you dont get offended when a dog licks your face then youre upto game

Let me start with my experience of the day and it stems from an argument I have seen a few locals engage in and trying to justify their school of thought.There isa belief inso many people that dog training should be done when the puppy is atleast 6 months old which leaves a big question begging for an answer;What exactly is dog training?In the same breath one could also ask when is the best time to start training your dog?

My defination entails analysis of behaviour and modification to specif environment so that the dogs performs a specific task or behaves in a way that will enhance its relationship with the owner.This can either be positive or negative training depending on ones desires.My belief and from experience is that dog training should start the moment the puppies gain cognition of it's sorroundings.

When I happen to have puppies,Training for me start when they are in the whelping box.I divide the box and lay blankets on one end for them to sleep on and newspapers for them to relieve themselves.As time goes they realise that they dont relieve themselves where they sleep, and that habit is carried on into the kennel.

Today I took up a 6months old Boerboel pup and from the first day,It wont be an easy trip down the road.This is a dog that is fearful of almost anything outside its kennel.Secondly it hasnt been obedience trained therefore it doesnt know when to sit,come,lie down and the most interesting is it only guesses its name could be the one its called by frequently.
The most challenging part of it all is that this dog has not known any rules and trying to get him to do anything,it resists ferociously even though I use positive training methods.At the same time it has been overfed with no exercise and is so fat to go for normal walks.

My argument is do not wait until the dog is 6months to train your dog.What these people basically refer to as training is guard dog training. A puppy from 2 months will respond well to training. I suggest that you take the initiative either on your own or find someone experienced to do it for you.

A have you ever heard someone say that his dog is priceless?Im one of them but I learnt to put a price tag on some of them.I havsold a puppy for $4000 and Ive sold a puppy for $100 only.Were they of the same breed?The answer is yes.Both were Rottweiler pups.Only that I sold them almost 2 years.

Before anyone thinks of getting into the business of dog breeding,you must like any business have a business plan.Breeding dogs isn't just multiplying the dogs snd selling them.A little market research will guide you on which breed is most popular and prices and who buys and at what times.

That said,you also need to select your dog your going to breed carefully.the dog world is the most diverse species in the world from large reeds to medium size to toy breeds.At the same time there are showbiz dogs and all these is driven by demand of certain qualities in dogs.

When I bought my first Rottweiler,my intention was to buy a pup,feed it then get puppies after a year or so.Unfortunately or fortunately I stumbled on someone who was selling a mature female for the price of a puppy.It was an opportunity I couldnt let pass me by.I grabbed it and with the knowledge that it had just been bred I started counting fays to its next breeding season.Time flew and soon my bitch was ready to be mounted and so this was the beginning of my nightmares.
I did not have a stud(male dog)and the stud services required me to pay.I was okay with paying for the service to my surprise the fee was the equivalent of one puppy.I didnt have the money with me but some guy decided to take a risk when I promised him I would give him a puppy after birth.

SO the bitch conceived and I got 10 puppies.I was bewildered with joy.I was seeing money in two months time.The two months would turn out to be longer than I expected.The initial 2 weeks were just fine when the little ones depended on theirr mother....to be continued!

Hapo juu nimeona nimeruka mambo muhimu yaliyonikumba....Baada ya mbwa wangu kupandwa na ndume ilikuwa ni wakati wa kuhesabu siku kabla ya yeye kuzaa.Kwa kawaida mbwa huzaa baada ya miezi miwili + or - siku 3.Siku ya kujifungua yenyenye ilikuwa kasheshe kwa sababu mbwa alikuwa tayari amezaa watoto saba na kwa kumwangalia niliona ni kama anazidiwa na nguvu ya kuskuma tayari ni kama zilikuwa zinampungua.Hapo sasa ikabidi niapply knowledge kidogo niliyofunzwa highschool kuhusu contraction ili mnyama aweze kujifungua.Na nikamwita vet fulani rafiki yangu kuja kumdunga sindano ya calcium huku nikimpa mbwa chai ya maziwa anywe kumwongeza nguvu.

Kama nilivosema hapo juu,wiki mbili za kwanza ilikua nzuri tu na nilimpa mama yao chakula chene protein nyingi na minerals ili awe na maziwa ya kunyonyesha watoto wake.Nilimchanganiyia nyama ya kusiaga,mapafu na mboga ya majani na kuongeza na yai moja kwenye kila mlo wake.Hapo akiwa anakula mara tatu kwa siku.Vijibwa vikawa na afya nzuri kweli.

Vilipotimia wiki tatu,niliwapa dawa ya minyoo na nikaanza kuwapa nyama ya kusiaga kidogokidogo.Walikuwa haraka na kwenye wiki ya nne nikaanzisha puppy meal.Nilichanganya na maziwa na kuwawekea kwenye sinia wale na baada ya masekunde ilikuwa tupu.Kadri siku zilizozidi ndivo walivozidi kula na hapo ndio kidogo nilianza kuona ugumu.Kwanza kabisa sikutarajia gharama yao kuwa juu kabla ya kuwauza na pili hata kama hivyo sikutarajia wawe wengi.

Kwenye wiki ya sita nilistahili kudunga vaccine ya kuzuia ugonjwa wa PARVO.Zoezi hilo ilinigharimu zaidi ya laki moja.Hapo bado ningefaa kuirudia vaccine hio baada ya wiki mbili ili niwe na uhakika wa vijibwa wangu kutoathirika kwasababu mmoja akiuwahi huo ungonjwa wa parvo then uwezekano wa vijibwa wote kufa ni kama 90%.Ni ugonjwa ambao unasambazwa kwa njia ya body fluids eg kinyesi na matapishi.Mbwa huhara na kutapika akipoteza maji mengi mwilini na kisha baadaye hufa ndani ya siku mbili.

Baada ya wiki mbili nilirudia ile vaccine lakini ya DHLP ya kukinga dhidi ya magonjwa kadhaa kma distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis na hata parvo.

Hapo nakuambia kila kitu kiko shwari na ni muda wa kuanza kutafta soko!Mbide nyinygine!!!
