I am quite aware that some Universities are using credit system. But UDSM and its constituent colleges (DUCE and MUCE) which were previously using unit system will change to credit system, from this 2014/2015 academic year.
This system will start with first years (without affecting the continuing students). The implications of this system is that the contact hours between student and course instructor will increase. For example, a course which had previously 3 units i.e. 2 lecture hours and 1 seminar hour per week, will have to change to have 3 lecture hours and 2 seminar hours per week.
At the same time, the examination system will also change for all students. All courses, even science courses as well as those which were previously used to essay (like history) will have objective questions such as multiple choice, matching items, true/false, completion of sentence etc. and will carry 30 marks in section A
Section B will carry 30 marks (three essays but candidate will choose two @ 15%)
Stay tuned and welcome
