Former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb has been offered to Queens Park Rangers after his latest career setback.
Hleb, 30, left Arsenal to join Barcelona three years ago but his latest loan spell at Wolfsburg has not worked out and the Spanish club are looking to offload him again.
Belarus international Hleb, who also had a spell on loan at Birmingham last season, is surplus to requirements at Barcelona who are ready to release him if QPR will take over his contract.
Hleb, who once wrote to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitting he made a mistake leaving and asking for another chance, has been offered round the Premier League but it is believed only QPR showed any level of interest.

Chelsea flop Gael Kakuta is being loaned to French club Dijon after failing to make an impact at Bolton.
The French under-21 midfielder caused a huge FIFA dispute over his move from Lens to Chelsea and has struggled to prove his worth in English football.
Kakuta, 20, is now hoping to rebuild his career back in France even though Dijon are battling relegation. He said: "My challenge is succeed at Chelsea but I know I need to improve."

[h=1]Warnock having second thoughts about selling Taarabt in January[/h] Published 22:00 22/12/11 By MirrorFootball

Neil Warnock admits he is having second thoughts over whether to offload diva midfielder Adel Taarabt.
Warnock was ready to listen to offers for the Moroccan in January after he had a series of strops and bust-ups with the rest of the squad.
Taarabt, last season's Championship Player of the Year, had thrown his toys out of the pram after he was shoved out of the Loftus Road limelight by the likes of Joey Barton.
Warnock admitted the rest of the squad wanted to "kick him in the teeth" - and team mate Shaun Derry told him he risked being frozen out if he carries on acting like the world owes him a living.

But his showing against Sunderland on Wednesday - when he came on at half time and helped drag Rangers level from 2-0 down - has made Warnock think again about letting him go.
Warnock said: "I am really pleased with him. The lads have got him back in the fold and they have told him why they want to kick him in the teeth.
"He responded in the right way, you saw that against Sunderland. The lads accepted what he did.
"We know he is going to make mistakes here and there, but in general he played really well."
Taarabt was close to a move to moneybags French club PSG in the summer, but he opted to stay on at Rangers.
But the arrival of Barton, Anton Ferdinand and Shaun Wright-Phillips since the takeover by Tony Fernandes has meant the playmaker is no longer the biggest name at Loftus Road.
But Warnock added: "I thought he has done ever so well the last two games. He was in the thick of it against Sunderland and almost made a goal against Manchester United last weekend."

Blackpool want to bring Jason Puncheon back to Bloomfield Road when his loan deal at QPR ends next week.
The winger is available for £400,000 having fallen out of favour at Championship leaders Southampton.
And Seasiders boss Ian Holloway is keen to snap him up having been impressed with Puncheon's form during a Premier League loan stint with the club last term.
He netted three goals in six starts but was unable to save Blackpool from the drop.

In the summer he joined QPR ahead of the Seasiders but injury and the arrival of Shaun Wright-Phillips have limited him to two sub appearances for Neil Warnock's men.

Dundee United midfielder Scott Allan appears set for a move to Barclays Premier League side West Brom in January.
United manager Peter Houston today refused to discuss the futures of individual players, preferring to focus on Saturday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Hibernian.
But Houston hinted Allan's preference is for a switch to Albion, who last week agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £400,000 for the 20-year-old, who is out of contract at Tannadice at the end of the season.
Allan, who has also been linked with Rangers and Celtic, has made just seven appearances for United, but has featured in the first team since October.

Chris Hughton is facing the prospect of losing Birmingham keeper Jack Butland to Spurs in a £2m deal.
Spurs have joined the chase to sign the England under-21 international who has not played a first-team game for Birmingham.
Butland has emerged as one of the most highly-rated keepers in the country and Hughton is preparing for bids in the January sales.
The 18-year-old was watched by over 30 scouts last month during a loan spell at Cheltenham and Redknapp has received excellent reports from his scouts.

Spurs currently have Brad Friedel, 40, and Carlo Cudicini, 38, and are keen to bring in a new keeper for the long-term.
And Hughton is expecting serious interest in the 6ft 4inches Butland due to Birmingham's cash problems.
He said: "I'm not thinking at the moment about players I might lose.
"We are very much aware of what the financial situation of the club is.
"I have got a competitive squad and until I'm told anything different, then we work the same way we've always worked.
"If that's not the case, then we work the best ways around it and with the best solutions we have. At the moment, it's not a big concern to me."

[h=1]Arsenal may re-sign Thierry Henry, says Arsene Wenger[/h] Page last updated at 00:14 GMT, Saturday, 24 December 2011

Henry scored 226 goals in 370 games for Arsenal Arsene Wenger is considering re-signing Arsenal's record goalscorer Thierry Henry on a two-month loan deal.
The French striker, 34, has been training with his old club since the end of the Major League Soccer season.
He is not due back at New York Red Bulls until March - and the timing may tempt manager Wenger because strikers Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh will soon be at the Africa Cup of Nations.
"Short term is ideal, but I haven't made any enquiry yet," Wenger said.

Henry scored 226 goals in 370 games between 1999 and 2007.
His time at the north London club coincided with one of the most successful periods in Arsenal's history, winning two league titles and three FA Cups before leaving for Barcelona.
Henry's legendary status at Arsenal was recently recognised during the club's 125th anniversary celebrations when a statue of him was unveiled outside Emirates Stadium.
Wenger said: "I have to think about [making an offer for Henry].
"1 January is the vital date for us. We have seven days to make decisions and I will make a decision in the next seven days on players."
The Africa Cup of Nations, which lasts a month, starts at the end of January.

[h=1]Phil Jones confirmed as fit for Manchester United's Christmas fixtures[/h] • Ashley Young will be out for several weeks with knee injury
• Scan reveals Jones did not suffer broken cheekbone at Fulham

Manchester United have been given good news regarding Phil Jones, after scans confirmed the 19-year-old did not suffer a broken cheekbone during Wednesday's 5-0 win at Fulham.
Jones was forced to leave the field after 20 minutes in the wake of a clash with Clint Dempsey and Sir Alex Ferguson said afterwards that he feared the young England international faced a spell on the sidelines.
But after scans revealed no break on Thursday, Ferguson revealed Jones is set to feature in the Boxing Day clash against Wigan at Old Trafford. "Phil Jones should be OK for Monday," the Manchester United manager said. "We feared the worst but there is no break."
Ferguson did confirm, however, that Ashley Young would be sidelined for at least "a few weeks" after he picked up a knee injury at Craven Cottage.
Young joins a growing injury list at Old Trafford, with Nemanja Vidic ruled out for the season while Darren Fletcher will miss an unspecified period with a rare bowel condition. In addition, Rio Ferdinand is set to be absent from Monday's game after picking up a foot injury in training.
Despite their injury concerns United have won seven of their past eight Premier League matches since their 6-1 humbling at home to Manchester City to leave them two points adrift of their cross-town rivals.
Ferguson is determined to maintain that run during a busy festive programme, adding: "It is time to keep our foot on the pedal."
The Scot would not be drawn on the subject of Luis Suárez's ban after the Liverpool striker was this week suspended for eight games by the Football Association for using insulting words towards United defender Patrice Evra – including reference to his colour – at Anfield in October. "I have nothing to say about that at all," he commented.
Ferguson was, however, more outspoken on the torrid reception Steve Kean endured from his own fans during his side's 2-1 defeat to Bolton on Tuesday night. Defeat left Rovers bottom of the table heading into Christmas and, after Kean received a barracking with supporters again calling for him to be sacked, Ferguson revealed he tried to call his fellow Scot to offer his support.
"I have never seen anything as bad as that," Ferguson said. "I feel for the lad. I tried to phone him but he probably quite rightly had his phone switched off. For goodness sake, give the lad a break. It doesn't say a lot for our society."

[h=1]Arsenal to make decisions on left-back and Thierry Henry loan deals[/h] • Arsenal eye cover as Gibbs out for another four weeks
• Manager remains coy on possible return for striker

Thierry-Henry-poses-next--007.jpg

Arsène Wenger will prioritise a loan move for a left-back in January, after Kieran Gibbs underwent a second groin operation, and the Arsenal manager also admitted he would decide over the next week whether to offer a short-term contract to the club legend Thierry Henry.
Gibbs was admitted for the surgery after he suffered a setback in his recovery from the original operation – he has not played since mid-October – and although Wenger claimed the youngster would be out for only four weeks, the injuries that he has to defenders elsewhere in the squad will force him to look for cover. He wriggled when pressed over Wayne Bridge, the former England left-back, who is on the fringes at Manchester City, and he refused to rule out an offer for him.
Wenger was clear that he was looking for a "short-term solution" because in the longer term, when everybody was fit, he was happy with his options. But he faces some weeks yet without his full complement as the left-back André Santos is out until March with ankle ligament damage and, on the right, Carl Jenkinson has suffered a setback in his recovery from a stress fracture to the back and will not return for at least another four weeks, while Bacary Sagna has targeted the end of next month for his comeback from a fractured fibula. Sagna has returned to training, although Wenger urged caution as he "saw him still limping a little bit".
Wenger feels for Gibbs who, after the summer sale of Gaël Clichy to Manchester City, had high hopes of establishing himself as the club's first-choice left-back and making Fabio Capello's England squad for Euro 2012. But the Frenchman predicted that the defender would return stronger and he said it was not too late to for him to go to next summer's finals.
"Gibbs is incredibly unlucky," Wenger said. "But he can still play in the Euros because they are in June and we are in December. Normally, this injury would keep him out for four weeks so there is still a good opportunity. I feel sometimes for players between 19 and 20, if they get injured, their body adjusts a little to the requested physical level and then they can have a long period without injury. Some get through but most of them suffer injuries between 19 and 20.
"It builds them up as well, mentally. When you start, you think life is easy but then, this kind of injury is very difficult to cope with. The guy who doesn't play feels useless, especially when he is injured. He cannot even fight for his place so it is a difficult period. But it makes him tough."
Henry, now with New York Red Bulls, has been training at Arsenal during the MLS close-season and Wenger has considered turning to him as a stop-gap measure as he will lose Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off on 21 January.
Whether the Red Bulls would sanction any loan for Henry is unclear and Wenger is also conscious of the potential for his compatriot to become a distracting sideshow. Only two weeks ago a statue of Henry was unveiled at the Emirates Stadium. How would he feel about being a mere squad player?
"The first of January is the vital date for us," Wenger said. "We have seven days to make decisions and I will make a decision in the next seven days on players. That's why I have Christmas Day off … I have to think about that. Short-term is ideal for us but I haven't made any inquiry yet. Thierry is not here at the moment. It has never come up in conversation!"
That last remark was delivered with a broad grin; it is inconceivable that neither player nor mentor has raised the notion. But Wenger, characteristically, preferred to focus on Tuesday's visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers, the first of what feel like three winnable matches for Arsenal. They face Queens Park Rangers at home on New Year's Eve and Fulham away on Monday week.
"In the Premier League, it is vital to get your points in the Christmas period," Wenger said. "We responded well to our defeat at Man City with a win at Aston Villa so now it's down to us to do the job at home. We know we have an opportunity to gain a better position in the table."

[h=1]Robin van Persie closes on Alan Shearer's landmark after stunning year[/h] • Dutchman needs three goals to set calendar record
• Arsenal captain says new signings have improved the side

Robin van Persie's avalanche of goals has fired Arsène Wenger's rebuilding project from a dire start into a credible fight for a Champions League berth, and taken the Dutchman to the verge of breaking Alan Shearer's Premier League scoring record of 36 in a calendar year.
Van Persie's strike in Arsenal's 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Wednesday evening made it 34 in 2011 to take him alongside Thierry Henry's 2004 tally. He requires three more from the visits of Wolverhampton Wanderers on 27 December and Queens Park Rangers on New Year's Eve to overtake Shearer's mark, set 16 years ago.
Van Persie's feat is more impressive as he has averaged a goal a game, whereas Shearer's total for Blackburn Rovers took 42, Henry's 39. "I'm on 34 now like Thierry," Van Persie says. "It is a big honour because Thierry is probably the best player Arsenal ever had and to achieve that in a year is really special. I don't want to jinx myself. I know about the record. It makes me proud – it's not my main target, but I'm happy about it of course."
After walking into Arsenal seven years ago from Feyenoord for a cut-price £2.75m, Van Persie's league return from the 2004-5 season onwards was a modest five, five, 11, seven, 11 and nine, before the serious contribution of 18 recorded in the last campaign, all of which were harvested on or after 1 January.
Yet this season he has 16 before the new year arrives. Once a regular in the Arsenal treatment room, Van Persie points to a new robustness for his surge of spectacular form. "I didn't miss one Premier League game [this season]," he says. "So when you have a good run and you feel fresh and fit you try things, you take more risks here and there than, for example, just coming back from injury.
"As a striker it is really important to have a go – if you feel sometimes to have a chip instead of shooting. If you look at my performances I take more risks now because I know with the team behind me I will always get more chances. It's not that I only get one chance normally; I always get one, two, three, sometimes four in a game. That sort of tells me that I can take a risk here and there."
A summer exodus from the Emirates began with Gaël Clichy joining Manchester City and continued when Cesc Fábregas, Wenger's on-field lieutenant, signed for Barcelona and Samir Nasri followed Clichy to the Etihad Stadium. The aftershock of this drain on star talent appeared fatal for the season's prospects when Arsenal left Old Trafford in late August having been routed 8-2 to leave them 17th with only a point from their opening three games.
Even Van Persie admits surprise that Arsenal now stand fifth. "Maybe a little bit. But we had to get used to new players and I have to give lots of credit to Mikel [Arteta], Per [Mertesacker], Yossi [Benayoun] as well. They are great characters and they're really helpful in every area.
"They picked it up very well and I do need assistance, they are always helping me. Mikel, he's played seven years at Everton, one-a-and-half/two years at Rangers, you can tell that he is an experienced player. Yossi, similar. Per Mertesacker played [nearly] 80 games for Germany so that really helped."
In a move that provoked some scepticism Van Persie was given the armband by Wenger after Fábregas departed. But the 28-year-old has thrived on the responsibility. "I want to help my team, I want to help them with assists, help them with goals, help them with good football. In some games that means holding the ball when we're struggling. Football is more for me than just scoring the ball in the back of the net. Football can give you much more. For example [against Villa] I had a nice pass to Aaron [Ramsey]; I enjoy that as much as a goal. I like to play football – it's a great game which can go many ways. I just love it at the moment."
Van Persie's new maturity can be found in his preference that the team should prosper, rather than the personal satisfaction of moving to 37 goals before 2012 arrives. "My main target is to win games and to help my team out and to have a good run, especially [against Villa] because it is always really important to bounce back after a defeat [the 1-0 loss at Manchester City on Sunday].
"Great teams bounce back, and that's what we had to do. We had to get a win. Now we have Wolves next, then afterwards QPR. Both are at home, so hopefully we can have a good run again."

El Hadji Diouf has agreed an 18-month contract extension with the Championship club Doncaster Rovers.
The Senegalese joined Rovers on an initial three-month deal in October and, amid reports of approaches from the big-spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala and LA Galaxy, news of his extended deal is a major boost to Dean Saunders in his side's battle against relegation.
"He's agreed to sign for 18 months so that's great news for the club," Saunders said. "He's probably the best signing the club's ever made. He hasn't signed the forms yet but we agreed everything last night and hopefully he's going to sign today.
"To be fair to him he's had different offers thrown at him and he's decided to stay. He's enjoying his football, he enjoys it at the club, he sees how ambitious we are and sees how ambitious I am – I don't want to be managing a team down the bottom, I want to be managing a team at the other end of the table."
Additionally, Saunders is close to securing the services of other high-profile signings Pascal Chimbonda, Hérita Ilunga and Habib Beye until the end of the season, the latter two on extended loan deals from West Ham United and Aston Villa respectively.
"Chimbonda wants to sign and Ilunga wants to stay so I'm going to try and do something on that as well," he said. "I spoke to Pascal on Thursday and he wants to sign. He's enjoying his football as well – and Habib Beye, I'm hoping I can do that."

Sony Sugar have for the third year running lost two of its most dependable players with captain David Otieno and midfielder Fredrick Onyango leaving the club.
Otieno, a mainstay of the team over the past three seasons and who has just been called up to the national team Harambee Stars, has moved to Western Stima, while Onyango, signed three years ago from Mathare United, moves to KPL league champions Tusker.
Speaking from the club base in Awendo, club secretary Zack Irungu confirmed that the two players had already moved and the club had decided to move forward.
"The two have left the club and their deals have been concluded," he said, adding that the club was now in the process of identifying the players to replace them and to strengthen the team in readiness for the next season of the KPL.
At the same time, Irungu said the club will this season break away from its traditional way of carrying out a recruitment drive by inviting players to a trial within the club's ground, saying they will just spot the players and recruit them directly.
"The mass recruitment of players is quite expensive so we will just identify the players we need," he said, adding that the team will soon release the names of the players they will have recruited.
The loss of the two has however been felt hard by the fans, especially that of Onyango who, apart from having scored several key goals for the team, is also moving to Tusker, the team which has for the past three years taken the best players from the club.
Two years ago, Joackins Atudo, Fred Ajwang and Noah Abich left the club to join the Ruaraka-based outfit while early this year, Steve Biko also followed in their footsteps.
According to Lucas Otieno, an official of the Sony supporters club, it was important that the players who had left were replaced by experienced ones who could fit in the team.
"We need the team to compete and this requires experience," he said adding that it was also important that the team retained its best players if they had the hopes of winning the league for the second time.
A staunch club supporter Sammy Omwaga said the management of the club should give the technical bench space to do its work.
"The problem with Sony Sugar FC is that officials want to lord it over the technical bench, which is against management systems," said Omwaga.

[h=1]Wayne Bridge hits back after Roberto Mancini questions his motivation[/h] • Player accused of being more interested in money than football
• Manchester City manager 'doesn't know me very well' – Bridge

Wayne Bridge has hit back at the Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini, for claiming he is more interested in money than football.
Mancini criticised the out-of-favour defender this week, suggesting that he was motivated only by his £90,000-a-week salary and that he spends Saturday afternoons playing golf as he is no longer part of City's first-team plans. Bridge has not played for City in the league for a year but has turned down the chance to leave despite offers from Celtic and clubs in Russia and Turkey.
Bridge told the Daily Mail: "Roberto Mancini obviously doesn't know me very well because I don't play golf. When I was at Chelsea I was playing for a team where Ashley Cole was the best in the world and I still got games. It won't happen at City. There has never been an explanation but it's obvious they don't want me.
"Mancini doesn't really speak to me, he doesn't really speak to any of the players. The only time I've known a player isolated like this was Winston Bogarde at Chelsea. Usually you still train with the first team, even when they want you out.
"I've never caused trouble, I'm not that kind of character. If I kicked up a fuss, I might have got out easier."

[h=1]Rivals Gor and AFC wrestle for Masika's move[/h]

International defender Eric Masika's intended move from 12-time Kenyan Premier League (KPL) winners Gor Mahia to their archrivals AFC Leopards has taken a new twist after Gor accused their rivals of tapping the player.
Gor, through the Club's Secretary General George Bwana on Wednesday wrote a letter to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) demanding action on Leopards, terming the ongoing deal over the player as illegal.
"This is outright tapping and we have written to the local federation demanding action on Leopards. According to Fifa rules, it is illegal to talk to a player who still has a contract with a club and Leopards have taken it too far and even splashed money and given him a contract before clearing with us," said George Bwana.
Bwana said: "We have information that Leopards gave Masika's parents Sh70,000 to convince the player to join our rivals. They have also given him a contract already and paid him a transfer fee of Sh450,000 without informing us, this is illegal and we can't accept it."
The highly-rated defender has been entangled in the battle between the two perennial rivals since he declared his intentions to cross the divide at the weekend.
Masika said he was moving to Ingwe for personal reasons and noted that he had made up his mind and would not listen to any improved offers from Gor, who have been trying to keep his services as they prepare to feature in the CAF Confederation Cup next year where they face Mozambique's Ferroviero in the first qualifier.
Leopards' bid for the player was Sh300,000 and stood by the price, while Gor Mahia initially demanded Sh1million and later dropped their tag to Sh600,000, but they is still a stalemate in the deal.
"The offer by Leopards is clearly a mockery going with the caliber of the player. They will have to increase the offer for us to release the player for them. We don't have anything against the move since the player has already made up his mind, but we want to get what we deserve," said Bwana.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia has landed the signature of Mathare United's international defender Llyod Wahome to cover up for Masika's departure in case the deal goes through. Wahome is making a comeback to K'Ogalo where he played before moving to the Slum Boys.
Gor have also signed Tanzania international custodian Ivo Mapunda, who is a celebrity in Dar es Salaam and his colleague at Bandari last season Wyclif Kasaya.
Midfield maestro Rama Salim has also joined the ‘Green Army' from Congo United and so is David Owino from Karuturi Sports.

[h=1]This week's Premier League fixtures: Five things we learned[/h] Manchester City are entitled to feel short-changed from their period of dominance over their celebrated neighbours United as the title race stays wide open

[h=2]1 Only the partisan would bet on Manchester supremacy[/h]Congratulations to Manchester City for leading English football at Christmas for the first time in the memory of all but their most veteran of supporters.
It is an achievement that deserves to be relished for those who travelled with their team down through the divisions and back again in their many thousands. But the neighbours, and closest challengers in every way, just will not go away.
City have made an impressively powerful statement over the first half of the campaign, but it is notable that their best ever period in top division football leaves them a mere two points ahead of Manchester United, whose response to that infamous 6-1 defeat has been to take three more points than City over the subsequent league games (22 points from 24).
The intrigue that will unfold over the second half of the season tantalises because while we know what United are capable of when the prizes are in sight, we have no idea how City will handle it when emotions intensify. Any neutrals out there care to put a significant bet on who will finish higher? The bookies, incidentally, are still offering shorter odds on City than United to win the league. Very crafty.
[h=2]2 The Premier League's 20,000th goal means diddly squat[/h]It is difficult to imagine Marc Albrighton's strike counted particularly highly in Alex McLeish's thoughts after another home disappointment for mid-table drifters Aston Villa. One way to help the manager to ingratiate himself would be a big result or two. But for a man who prided himself on a decent record against the elite whilst at Birmingham City, McLeish has been beaten every time by the big guns during his spell with Villa.
Although his team showed more appetite in their defeat to Arsenal than they did against Liverpool, with Albrighton and Barry Bannan both showing promise, any team who concede a headed match-winner to that gargantuan monster Yossi Benayoun is inevitably going to feel frustrated. But the biggest concern of all was the unprofessionalism epitomised by Alan Hutton. Villa are short of players at the moment. They need all the experience they can call upon. Hutton duly worked up an unnecessary head of steam and wound himself up for a completely predictable and foolhardy foul for which he was sent off. We can only imagine what went through the mind of Richard Dunne, whose performance at the back had been flawless. Sometimes it must be quite a challenge to keep your counsel back in the dressing room.
[h=2]3 Roy Hodgson can wave his magic wand anywhere except the north-west[/h]If a nomadic management career takes in 16 clubs and three national teams, it is reasonable for one or two pit-stops to turn out badly. Even Hodgson himself would be hard pressed to explain why his two worst experiences – at Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool – were so troublesome.
There were a few raised eyebrows when he took over at the Hawthorns so soon after flopping at Anfield, but West Bromwich Albion are clearly feeling the effects of Hodgson's wisdom.
Successive away wins take them into the top half of the table, a place the manager has challenged his players to stay. They were terrific in a humdinger of a game at St James' Park, and it is no coincidence that West Brom have found a cutting edge to go with their renewed confidence now that their preferred striking partnership of Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie are back fit. Hodgson is full of praise for his charges and their efforts to improve: "These players are exceptional in terms of character and willingness to practice. Everyone wants to play, not everyone wants to practise. That can be the difference between success and failure." That seems a sound enough motto.
[h=2]4 Wigan's great escape starts here[/h]Two points out of six at home is not normally reason for great enthusiasm, but Wigan Athletic's spirited points made against Chelsea and Liverpool over the past few days have been brave, and built on the kind of spirit that saw them through in the end last season. They have had moments this term, notably during a sequence of eight straight defeats, where it seemed impossible for them to conceive another act of miraculous escapology. But Roberto Martínez manages to instil in his team a willingness never to get too downhearted, however grim things seem.
Ali al-Habsi stole the show against Liverpool, crowning another strong display with a penalty save, but ahead of him their eagerness to keep trying the passing game Martínez preaches, whoever the opposition, is admirable. Next up, and with their eyes on an unlikely hat-trick of bonus points, is a trip to Old Trafford.
[h=2]5 There won't be seven Scottish managers in the Premier League for much longer[/h]Admittedly, this is not exactly a Eureka moment. In fact we will learn something about the Premier League we never thought possible if Scotland has the same headcount by the end of the season. Actually make that the end of January.
Blackburn Rovers's tussle against Bolton Wanderers was obviously going to pile even more pressure on one or other of Steve Kean and Owen Coyle, and while the former was clearly garnering more headlines, the breathing space for the latter is a relief for a manager facing the biggest test of his career so far. A year ago Coyle was manager of the month material. This season Bolton have lost more games in the division than anyone else.
They do need to consolidate in their next three games, against Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton. The one Scot, apart from Sir Alex, who can sit down for their Christmas dinner in very good cheer is Paul Lambert. Norwich City are the only one of the promoted teams in the top half of the table. Lambert is sitting prettier than the likes of David Moyes and Alex McLeish, managers whose lack of resources are often used as an explanation for their resources. Lambert is proving how a little can sometimes go a very long way.

[h=1]Huntelaar cool on United move as Dutch striker targets new deal at Schalke[/h] By Sportsmail Reporter

Last updated at 7:07 PM on 24th December 2011

Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar insists he is happy at Schalke despite reported interest from Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson is a long-term admirer of the 28-year-old, who has rediscovered his form at the German side following disappointing spells at Real Madrid and AC Milan

article-0-0F35B73300000578-541_468x417.jpg
Red hot: Huntelaar has been in imperious form for Schalke this season.

The Holland international has scored 15 goals in 16 matches in the Bundesliga this season, as well as six goals in seven Champions League matches.
He was linked with a possible swap deal with out of favour Dimitar Berbatov in the January transfer window after United were hit by injuries to Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez and Michael Owen.

But Huntelaar insisted he was only focused on Schalke.

'I know nothing of alleged interest from Manchester United,' Huntelaar told German magazine Voetbal International.

On target: Huntelaar has scored 15 goals in 16 games this season

'I will not even speculate, I am concentrating fully on Schalke.

'I'll let any offers come to me quietly and will then see what happens. This is the attitude I've always had.

'My contract runs until the summer of 2013. If they [Schalke] want to talk, I'll gladly listen.'
United have also been linked with the likes of Juventus midfielder Milos Krasic and Anderlecht midfielder Lucas Biglia but manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he would only make a move in the January if a top player becomes available or his squad is further hit by injuries.

Waiting game: Sir Alex Ferguson

Ashley Young this week joined an extensive injury list that includes the likes of Nemanja Vidic, Anderson, Owen and Tom Cleverley, while Darren Fletcher is also sidelined with a bowel condition.
However, Ferguson believes he has the strength in depth to cope and is not currently planning any January raids.
Writing in his programme notes for the Boxing Day game with Wigan, Ferguson said: 'All things being equal I am perfectly happy with the strength of our squad in terms of depth, quality and age range.
'I will not be swayed by the endless tweets and blogs urging the club to get busy in the transfer market next month.

Wanted man: Argentine midfielder Lucas Biglia is on several club's radars

'As far as I am concerned I am marching perfectly in step, true to my beliefs and principles. While recruiting some of the world's leading players can lift you into contention for honours, it doesn't necessarily take you all the way, as I hope we will be able to demonstrate before the end of the season as other factors come into play.
'You can never say never in football, of course, because fortunes can fluctuate wildly - that's the football world. If a really top-class player became available, then we would go for him, or if we picked up any further serious injuries, it might be important to add to our squad.'
