Danish midfielder and VFL Wolfsburg player Christian Eriksen , 34 has sparked global concern again after collapsing during an international friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine on Sunday evening.
The match, played at Nature Energy Park in Odense, Denmark, was a friendly fixture (non-tournament game) and was being used as part of Denmark’s preparation schedule for the World Cup. At the time of the incident, Denmark were reportedly leading 2–1, and the game had reached around the 65th minute.
Reports indicate that Eriksen suddenly appeared unwell, clutching his chest before falling to the ground. Medical personnel immediately rushed onto the pitch as players from both teams formed a protective circle while he received urgent treatment. He was later conscious and able to walk off the pitch with assistance before being taken to hospital for further medical evaluation.
Following the incident, the referee officially abandoned the match, with players and staff visibly shaken. The fixture was not completed as attention shifted entirely to Eriksen’s condition.
The situation has drawn widespread attention due to Eriksen’s previous cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 in 2021, where he collapsed against Finland. He later returned to professional football after being fitted with an implanted cardiac device, making his comeback one of the most remarkable in modern sport.
At the time of reporting, Eriksen is said to be conscious and stable, though doctors are still conducting tests to determine what caused the latest episode. Further updates are expected from team officials and medical staff.
Fans and the global football community worried as concern grows over the long-term health implications for the midfielder.
