Three Ugandan Choppers go missing in Kenyan Airspace!

Two of the missing Ugandan attack
helicopters which went off the radar on
Sunday as they flew to Somalia to shore up
the final attack on the port city of Kismayu
have been sighted after crash.
Kenya's Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe said
in brief statement: "one has been sighted on
Mt Kenya and another in Meru area." We are
still trying to find out finer details of the
crash and the search and rescue missions
are on-going."

Mkuu the whole incident sounds GREEK to me! How can a very agile and battle proven killer machine free fall out of the sky at termial velocity - Mkuu, this defies all laws of physics? and to add salt to an injury the choppers in question is not one but THREE!! How come the three choppers dissapeared off the RADAR screens almost instantenously? Does this make sense, and not a single pilot/copilot reported any a mechanical fault/fuel via HF/VHF radio to the nearest control tower/base? Can GOK avail to International Community or Ugandan Govt the three flight data recorder to leave the coast clear.

Looks to me the chooper crew were taken by complete surprise hawakuwa na muda wa kuripoti chochote kwenye base - hii inatoa taswira gani? Kulipuliwa na missile aina ya stinger kutoka aridhini au AAM kutoka kwenye fighter planes na si lazima fighter hizo ziwe within the vicinity, missile hizo zinaweza kuwa fired toka umbali wa zaidi ya 50 nautical miles -fire and forget control system. I stand to be corrected if my assumption might be proved to be far fetched ****-hopefully!

lets wait for the official KDF/UPDF communique, one chopper mil-17 arrived safely in garissa but 3 mi-24 copters (armed gunships) for some reason didnt complete their journey. The successful Mi-17 pilot & crew will shed more light on the matter.
I suspect poor visibility, mountaneous terrain or technical mishap given the purchase history of the said armed variants...(3 mi-24 copters).

the choppers are said to have arrived in Eldoret military camp for refuelling, proceeded to nyanyuki airbase for the same and its from here that the copters developed difficulties enroute to Garissa airbase. KDF were aware of their intended flight path. The batteries if used would have shredded the copters to an empty shell.

You've made a lot of assumptions here.

UPDF helicopters located, no deaths reported
The four UPDF helicopters that had reportedly gone missing on Sunday as they flew to Somalia to shore up the final attack on the port city of Kismayu have been located, army spokesperson Felix Kulaigye has confirmed.

Kulaigye said there were no fatalities. He explained the choppers did not crash as earlier reported but made what he described as a ‘hard landing’.

It was reported that bad weather had come in the way of the rescue efforts.

The four helicopters left a base in Soroti in Eastern Uganda Sunday for Eldoret with 28 air force officers on board but disappeared in Kenya air space
"The choppers left Soroti on Sunday for Eldoret. They landed successfully. They then left Eldoret for Nanyuki where they were scheduled to refuel before flying to Garissa. The choppers arrived in Nanyuki at 4pm. After that they headed for Garissa and were expected to land at 6pm,” Kulayigye said on Monday.
He said it was only helicopter number Mi17 that landed successfully in Garissa but reported to have lost contact with the rest of the helicopters. The pilot of the third helicopter had radioed for help from the Mount Kenya region, but rain and poor weather conditions are hampering rescue efforts.
Kenya's Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe said in a brief statement: "One has been sighted on Mt Kenya and another in Meru area. We are still trying to find out finer details of the crash and the search and rescue missions are on-going."
Last week the Uganda People’s Defence Air Force for the first time sent a contingent of ace pilots to support the ongoing AU peace operations in Somalia.
The air force would provide aerial escort for convoys, reconnaissance operations along the supply routes, medical evacuation, air search and rescue as well as aerial combat against the al-Shabaab in Mogadishu.
The contingent of airmen and women and helicopters was flagged off by the chief of defence forces Gen. Aronda Nyakairima and the commander of the air force Gen. Jim Owoyesigire.
Aronda handed over the AU flag to the contingent commander Lt. Col. Chris Kaija.
Then, Gen. Owoyesigire said that the utility helicopters would be used to support the ground troops in line with the unapproved mandate for troops deployed in Somalia under the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Ugandan troops form the backbone of the AMISOM in Somalia.

Hapo ndio mtajuwa maana ya Allahu Akbar!

With due respect to my moslem colleagues, what are you talking about? Unajua unachokisema wewe? Halafu unasema uko kwenye system...no wonder we just see acting low and failures all over the place!

The BBC interviewed a Kenyan military affairs expert with connections to the Kenyan military who attributed the "accidents" due to bad weather and the fact that the choppers were flying in formation with only one of them having radar equipment, so when visibility was too low they could not see each other forcing some to crash land.

Kenyan military rescue was on the way.No deaths reported, relatively minor injuries and the choppers did not explode.

You are right Livefire, I think UDPF report on the incident were a bit amateuristic - there were more questions than the ANSWERS!!

Moja tu ndio ilikuwa na radar? Afrika bwana, kila sehemu kuna mabasi ya Sabena mpaka kwenye ndege. Duuh

All three Ugandan helicopter gunships that had gone missing since last evening have been accounted for with two believed to have crashed in the Mt. Kenya region.Uganda's Armed Forces this afternoon confirmed the entire crew had been accounted for. However they denied the two choppers had crashed describing the mishap as 'hard landing'.rescue operations by a joint team of the kdf and KWS is underway despite experiencing bad weather in the Mt. Kenya area.

UPDF commanders saying good-bye :

Military Spokesman Bogita Ongeri said the soldiers in one of the located helicopters were receiving treatment at a military base in Nanyuki.
"Seven of them have been rescued and are being treated," he said.
He would not comment on the extent of injuries they sustained or if they were the only ones in their helicopter.
Ongeri added that the search and rescue mission for two other military helicopters was underway in the expansive forest where they went down late on Sunday while en-route to Somalia to join AMISOM forces in the war against Al Shabaab.

Hapo jana helicopter tatu za Jeshi la Uganda zimeanguka Kenya. Tatizo nini hasa;
1. Hali ya hewa mbaya (helicopter hazina radar navigation vile?)
2.Uzembe marubani/ incompetence
