Three more people have succumbed to coronavirus in Kenya as 155 others tested positive in the last 24 hours.

The death toll now stands at 128 with total number of cases reported in the country rising to 4,952.

Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said all of the new cases are Kenyans: 120 are male and 35 are female.

She said the latest cases are from 4,171 samples with total cumulative samples tested now at 146,537.

The youngest is a 1 year old infant and the oldest is 77 years old.

County distribution is as follows:

▪️Nairobi 104
▪️Busia 19
▪️Migori 10
▪️Mombasa 9
▪️Uasin Gishu 4
▪️Kiambu 3
▪️Machakos 2
▪️Nakuru 2
▪️Kisumu 1
▪️Kajiado 1

102 patients have since been discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,782.

Dr. Mwangangi however noted that containment measures have reduced cases as people are more conscious of their health.

“We have seen a decline and dipping in other infectious diseases,” she said adding that there has also been a decrease in vices such as domestic violence.

According to the Health CAS, Sexual Reproductive and Health Rights (SRHR) needs must be prioritized particularly over reported cases of teenage pregnancy.

“We are interrogating the data with the counties. Teenage motherhood is catastrophic and disempowering. One pregnancy is a pregnancy too many. We have reviewed this number. Teenage numbers present late. The current data from the study highlighted is inaccurate especially when we look at the antenatal data,” she said.
