We all know how hard it has been for our people in Tanzania to access clean water for drinking and other domestic activities.
There have been a lot of promises from politicians, and a lot has been done to mitigate the water crisis in Tanzania, but unfortunately, not much has been achieved to get rid of the problem.
Well, President Samia Suluhu is turning the tables on this. She's coming to an end if not to mitigate the problem to heights that have never been met in Tanzania's history. How will that happen?
1. Tanzania expects to launch sustainable water projects in 28 towns, out of which 24 will have their projects funded by the Exim Bank of India at the value of 500 million US dollars.
2. The procurement procedure to acquire contractors for 24 towns is completed.
3. Places like Ifakara, Wanging'ombe, Kayanga, Makonde, Njombe, Makambako, Manyoni, Songea, Sikonge, Chunya, Kilwa Masoko, Rujewa, Mugumu, Geita, Chato, Zanzibar, Singida Mjini, Mpanda, Chemba, Mafinda, Urambo Kaliua, Pangani, Rorya/Tarime & Chamwino.
4. In the coming financial year, Tanzania will implement 1,029 water projects, of which 648 are continuing, while 381 are new, most in rural areas.
5. Implementing the new water projects will cost a whooping of 95bn/ shillings.
6. Minister Aweso tabled the Ministry's 709,361bn/- budget, listing water project priorities to be implemented in the next financial year.
This kind of investment had never happened before since we attained independence. President Samia has been consistently doing wonders since she took office in early March 2021.
