The serene town of Varkala buzzes with activity during the vacation season. A perfect beach escapade for leisure travelers, honeymooners and medical tourists, Varkala has much to bestow. Long swims in the azure sea, idle evenings watching brilliant sunsets, early morning strolls, shopping to your fill, relishing the scrumptious cuisine, the high spirits of alcohol and smokes, there is much to do while holidaying on this seaside township.

The main sites at Varkala that are worth a visit are its sacred temples and places such as Janardana Swami Temple, Sivagiri Mutt and historic spots such as Anjengo Fort. A jaunt to the Golden Islands, Ponnumthurut Island, Kappil Lake or Varkala tunnel is an ideal idea for a relaxing and scenic day out. Elephant rides, catamaran cruise or fishing trips, each activity renders a fresh thrilling sensation. The beach bazaars and Tibetan shops are the hot spot for shopaholics with its unique artifacts, handicrafts, jewelry, incenses and spices.

Ayurveda therapies and spa massages and therapies with Acupuncture, Reiki, Aromatherapy etc., being a rage among tourists are provided by various Kerala tour operators in their holiday packages.Beach holidays at Varkala are best during the winters in Kerala, from December to February, while tourists do flock in during the summers that extend from March to May disregarding the heat and humidity. Each passing monsoon witnesses growth in medical tourist arrivals and there is constant demand for Ayurveda therapies, Yoga and other alternative treatments and spa therapies. The massages and medications alongwith leisure activities included in Kerala Ayurveda & Monsoon packages assure tourist traffic from June to September.
