There's a heartbreaking news about TG Omori suffering kidney failure. Last year, he posted about how he battled for his life after consuming some fake drinks.

His brother donated a kidney for him and TG reported the transplant has failed. This means he has to be in regular dialysis till he gets another kidney.

Until his outcry yesterday, no one knew he was suffering. He continued putting out stellar work and music videos, despite his personal agony and travails.

A lot is not being said about the increasing incidence of kidney diseases among young people in Nigeria. Many battle this silently, spending everything they have on dialysis. Most end up giving up hope after they have spent all with no help in sight. Average cost of dialysis is around N100k and you need 3 sessions per week which is about N300k weekly or N1.2m every month.

It is pricey! And this is not to mention the time spent: 4-6 hours per session and the entire discomfort involved - the cannulation, having a regular AV fistula or graft which you need to protect from getting infected.

In a country like Nigeria 🇳🇬 suffering economic collapse, the best thing you can do as a young person is to protect your kidneys. Drink plenty of water. Cut down or avoid alcohol - there are a lot of fake alcoholic drinks flying around. Stop bleaching or toning or whatever it is called these days. Avoid drugs - most of these stress your major organs - kidneys, liver, heart and brain - and can cause major damage. Conditions like hypertension and diabetes affect the kidneys as well so monitor your blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Prayers up for this young man who is hands down one of the most creative music video directors out of Africa. He gave us visuals to most songs on Asake’s debut - ‘Terminator’, ‘PBUY’ ‘Sungba Remix’ and so many Afrobeats hits - Kizz Daniel’s ‘Buga’, ‘Shu-Peru’, Davido’s ‘Feel’ and many others.

Wishing you speedy recovery
