I have been a stakeholder of Tanzanian music almost for ten years,i have witnessed the rise and fall of many great artists,i see bad omen in our industry, all i see is great artists within our boundaries who can not make it internationally without being helped by great artists from other nations.
Saying that they are not tallented(it's not fair),some are very tallented while others are not,we do not have identinty(especial bongo flavour),bongo flavour is influenced much by the market forces,if kwaito does well in the market u find out almost all artists try to produce songs relating to kwaito, the same is true for nigerian flavour and the other kind of music, possibly the problem originate from we fans, for so long we have the tendency of not preffering our products, may be this has made our artists to believe that ,the only way to breakthrough internationally or to win the local market is via sampling nigerian and south africa beats and melody respectively, it takes a lot to be an artist, being creative and innovative it's a part of it,i mean artists and producers must come up with something unique which can make our music identifiable and adourable,or we have failed to come up with our own Tanzanian flavour,to come up with our identity which will be recognized all over the world, I am not expecting to see Diamond being great artist than Davido,P square or even 2 face idibia, and i can explain why,its only because he is walking under the shadow of nigerian artists, singing like them, dancing like them even featuring most of them expecting to gain recognition, while Nigerian artists are struggling to have an international breakthrough in big nation like America and the likes,we are very bussy coping their style hoping we will go far than them, while kwaito does well all over africa,we are very busy coping their music expecting to do better than them,i have just named diamond as case study, what about Rich mavoko, what about Ommy dimpos,i do not what to say anything about hiphop because I am sure it's much harder for them to make it.
Congo choosed Bolingo,we have yet seen how far they have gone, south africa choosed kwaito, see where they are,we must choose the percuriar kind of music originate from our tradional music and modernize it,perhaps it will be feasible to make it.
