First, I believe Tanzania lacks a purposeful elite. I don’t mean that the Tanzanian elite doesn’t have a purpose for its existence.

Like elites everywhere, Tanzania’s top dogs are interested in their own self-preservation. Nothing wrong with that. Except self-preservation isn’t a national interest, or a noble purpose.

No people, state, country, or civilisation has ever become great without a great and purposeful elite.

A purposeful elite defines the national interest and then forges the people’s zeitgeist to that end. There has to be convergence between the interests of the elite and those of the nation. Dissonance and divergence between the two creates infertility in all aspects of national life.

National elites study and understand the history of great civilisations. It’s through such study and reflection that elites create consensus on the purpose for the existence of the state.

This requires deliberate investment in think-tanks, universities, and secret government programmes designed to foster high-minded agendas. It may even involve the creation of national syndicates beyond the visible eye.

Take China, for example. The People’s Republic didn’t just spring from nowhere to become a global behemoth. Another example is Israel.

How a tiny country surrounded by states seeking its annihilation has dominated the Middle East is an object lesson about a purposeful elite.

And of course, I can’t forget strongman Lee Kwan Yew’s Singapore.

Do our elites care to study the history of great powers? the most purposeful elites try to know everything about their people.

This knowledge has a purpose. It’s to digest and categorise a nation’s — a people’s — strengths and weaknesses. Especially important to understand is a nation’s weaknesses.

That’s because a state can’t become great unless it eliminates, or cuts down, on its weaknesses. Here, one must study the cultural attributes of the people.

Do they have a work ethic? Are they competitive? Do they like organisation? What types of authority and order do they respond to?

What are the nation’s weaknesses — bad weather, tough topography, small population, or an unschooled population?

You then build national projects to exploit your strengths and limit the weaknesses. Add the former and subtract the latter.

We are dumb copies of the European. My view is that cultural mental slavery has uprooted Tanzanians and suspended them into an unethical orbit.

We are moral dwarfs. We have been engineered by others for their benefits. That’s why we do not know how to act in our national interest.

That’s why we cannibalise each other because we only know how to act in the personal interest.

This phenomenon isn’t dissimilar from the pedagogy of the oppressed.

The Elites must wake up, our Nation needs us more today than before.

At the core interest of this topic on the table, can we reflect on the Family as a primary foundation for the nation, the most number one guarantee of any nation progress.....?!

Can we discuss the moral and ethical aspects molds of our people in reflection to our modern family structure and behavior patterns as per current societal situation ?!

Elites in marxist sense must engineer and lead the proletariat and peasants to the transformation required in Tanzania. What is it on the ground?

What have you done, as Elite so that the rest can emulate...

Much congratulations for the efforts to establish companies in diverse sectors which add values to you in person, the man power who have a chance to work and the nation which gets returns through taxes and other financial benefits which flows in as the result of your investment.

Based on statistics and yearly budget proposal presented in the general assembly, Tanzania imports lots what can locally be produced; allow me to mention the few
domestic and industrial sugar,
liquid milk and powdery milk
packaged beef
fish
edible cooking oil
clothes made of cotton
shoes, belts, handbags and diverse leather products
animal feeds
products of timber such as furnitures

Probably we should ponder as a nation, how long will it take to establish industrial farms which can produce such products to feed the local demand and later surplus to supply the EAC region, SADC region and across boarders?

For investment to happen we need funds, land, technology and trained man power to run such industries; in the absence of local available investors who have funds to purchase land, acquire technology and pay for training of the man power available in Tanzania, what other options bridge the gap.

While we seek for foreign investors, what other options should we expect from individuals like you Dr. Magembe.

Have ever though of establishing financial leveraging even via paper-work to lead other local Tanzanians to invest in projects which can provide solution of cutting down imports, in the course lead to increased production and open avenues for surplus which will lead to obtain forex through imports.

Or in the agroforestry sector your in, can you incubate local investors who can produces exports products such as bio-charcoal then you can become a shareholder, and the the investment loan is payable you can release the trainees to navigate on their own?

We may learn from politicians, it happens when a President can appoint an individual to be a member of parliament as a prerequisite to hold ministerial post. For people whom are no longer in pursuit of bread like you, have ever though of forging such models where "infrastructures" can be developed to see investments are happening in Tanzania.

As we refer a tiny country like Israel, they highly invest in strategic economic intelligence tool, business intelligence tool and competitive intelligence tool to be at the cutting age. As a nation what tools do we have in place that we can employ to see the Tanzania economic status is progressive.

Have a view at this model;

Mwl. Julius Nyerere our nation founding father made various models in the liberation of Africa. In other aspects he had to use Tanzanian resources to ensure Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa are liberated.

Israel have cooperative economic models on which kibbutz or moshav were a foundation of their economic model and economic miracle.

Unless we build a supportive systems with build inclusive economy, then we can arrive in promise land within 21 days instead of 40 years.

Shalom

Good observation; but not in this "United Kingdom of Tanzania". Every elite group is forced to act in the way the "King" wishes. Wasalaam Allekum.

I believe that! in all aspects development in africa should be an african development and not a copy from china, urope or america.

If i say " Cats are dumb copies of Dogs", the statement will be correct if and only if i believe that cats should behave like dogs, but should they?

Africa has been like a cat mimicking a dog, imepita miaka mingi alafu leo paka anajiuliza " why am i not a better dog?" Wakati huo hajiamini kama akiishi kama paka anaweza kudevelop.

On point, a new beginning is necessary, but we must conduct a proper study and reviews on how other countries with similar developmental indicator in 1960's managed to be where they are today ?

I doubt! Your English signals something different from what you want us to believe. "Samahani kwa hilo".

They first created a firm platform for human freedom, justice, and democracy; as a leverage for economic development.

A very educative contribution which asks relevant question on projects formations and development.

To succeed there must be something burning in you geared to achieve successes in your intended projects, the zeal to succeed is very important in keeping trying even when results are not desired.

Very few people are so gifted to do and succeed in any project they touch. You must do what you can and leave others to succeed in projects which you are likely to fail if embark on.

I welcome you to furthering this discussion particularly about your propositions. Contact me through my inbox to actioning. I am always ready to help.

No reason to hide yourself, will you mind if you mention your six companies, so that we can know how bigger your companies are?
I cannot go more public than I have so far. We can exchange more on many issues including the role of Elites through my Inbox.
