Tanzania has most trade barriers in EAC- report!!!

Tanzania has most trade barriers in EAC- report!!!

Unnecessary trade barriers without doubt results to loss of trade for the entire region. For instance, when we impose a law that restricts tourists from coming from a neighboring country, we in away reduces tourist inflow both in that country as well as in ours….and many other examples that you can cite which depicts this sorry state of affairs. This reminds me of an article I had read on THE BASIC LAWS OF HUMAN STUPIDITY by Carlo M. Cipolla. The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity

By definition: A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

And so far we are very happy with they way things are going. Infact bei zinaweza kuengezwa so hurry while the price is still low!

Kila mutu ajenge inji yake. Unachungulia uwa wa jirani yako kupitia ufa wa nyumba yako!!!

Nani kachungulia kwenye ufa?!!

..we need some sanity in this thing.

..the article says Tanzania[1] is number one in terms of trade barriers, then it is followed by Kenya[2],Uganda[3], and Burundi[4].

..my question is what is the difference btn being number 1 in trade barriers to being number 2 or 3? also what criteria were used in the study and drawing the conclusions that they did?

NB:

..what amazes me r the non stop attacks frm Kenya.

..ECONOMICAL TANZANIA IS NOT DOING ANY BETTER THAN KENYA. SASA HIZI ATTACKS AND ANIMOSITY FRM KENYA NI ZA NINI HASWAA???

Mkuu Joka Kuu

niweka hii post si kwasababu kenya tu bora, lakini nimeangalia ripoti na KE na TZ ndio the most affected. sasa nilitaka tuwe na mjadala au tubadilishane mawazo jinsi ambavyo tutaweza kuondoa hizi trade barriers. Lakini kuna watu wametumwa hapa akina Abdulhalim. Sijui hawajui kusoma au vip? Tunajikokota kiuchumi na 4.5. Kwa hivyo this is a balanced report and also debate.

dude, u don't need to pretend to be someone u r not..u and i know the truth.

Mzalendo452,

..In my opinion hii article and the heading is a continuation of Kenyas media attacks towards Tanzania.

..Kenya is number 2 foreign investor in Tanzania. It is a little strange to me for a Kenyan newspaper to have a headline like that. The article highlights trade barriers that r in Tanzania, and doesn't mention anything that is happening in Kenya[which is number 2], or Burundi.

..personally nadhani haya mambo mnayofanya WAKENYA hayajengi bali YANABOMOA EAC. How do you expect to co-exists na wa-Tanzania if your media is up in arms with all sorts of negativity towards them?

Kenya's barriers are retaliatory and aimed squarely at Tanzania. On the other hand, trade between Kenya and Rwanda is free and Kenyans and Rwandans can travel between the 2 countries without passports and work permits have been abolished too. Every single country on the other hand points at Tanzania as an impediment to integration and that is why even the presidents did not visit during your jubilee. This is a sad reality that has to be dealt with head on! We are stronger together but the willing partners of the EAC have made it clear to Tanzania that they are ready to move on with or without you.

but corruption is the highest trade barrier than weight bridges or id cards or traffic checkpoint or otherwise u r planning to destroy our roads by overweighing or export Mungiki robbers then tell us why are weight bridges and police checkups a hindrance to u! Do u think we forgot the wave of organized crime the Northern Tanzania city of Arusha and town of Moshi experienced from the "Mwangis" and the likes earlier 2000? Stupid report anyway....!

Lol...destroy our roads? hivi nyie si ndio mlikuwa mnapitia Kenya kwenda arusha,Dar etc maana central TZ ilikuwa haipitiki na leo mnakuja na story eti they are destroying our roads, then bila aibu mnakuja na fake patriotism hapa to defend ujinga wakati mnaoumia ni nyie wenyewe,FYI hizo barrier zinaumiza kila mtu na hazina citizenship may be ungekuwa into business ungeelewa jinsi zinavyoua productivity na business za watu, kuna topic nyingi sana humu tanzanians complaining about TRA,bandari, airports, police etc ila kwa sababu tu kuna comparisons na nchi nyingine za EA basi umefumba macho na kuanza attack the report na kutetea upuuzi unaofanywa na corrupt officers wa TZ

Tanzanian port is more efficient than Kenyan! Instead of poking ur nose on another person business, u should start solving ur inefficiencies first!

and that is the past we don't need to change our laws just because we used ur road way back! BTW we were paying visa by then n u did not ask us not to pay as we let u move freely in Tanzania

Here we go again!!!
Why are we fighting over the bar tab while the ship has hit the Iceberg?
Are we really going to have a Federation without refferrendum?
I am sure Tanzanians don't possess the "Political will". So why bother with these stupid trading blocks that have no meaning to everyday people? This whole EAC **** is wack!!

I have to frankly ask you is this true? Why kenya against Tanzania? However, you have said one point which is true, The presidents of three East African states are not meeting eye to eye, which begs us to admire the Mkapa, Moi & M7 administration. Diplomatic relations were not strained then between Mkapa, M7, & Moi. But now btn Kibaki,Kikwete, and Kaguta what is not going right? Mostly that is the reason why the bottlenecks are becoming rampant because they are not addressed or what do you think.?

Just include yourself among those without political will otherwise don't act as if you are not partisan to their interests. We all know how increase in well driven trade can benefit a country. I think a change in perception is needed and not referundum

Get serious! Our efficiency(are we even efficient?) is an embarassment.I know lots of guys who prefer Mombasa to Dar port not because they are unpatriotic but simply because they want to avoid stories za 'wafanyakazi wameenda lunch, mara njoo kesho...muda wa kazi umekwisha...Let's admit our weaknesses and move forward,
