Qingdao University is situated in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao, China, in a beautiful setting on the coast of the Yellow Sea with Mount Fushan in the background. Founded in 1924, it has become a well-established university. In 1993, Qingdao University became even more versatile when it was merged with three other major universities
Under the leadership and with the support of governments at all levels, Qingdao University has developed into a large-scale and well-managed comprehensive university with a good teaching staff, a complete range of disciplines, having high prestige among similar domestic universities.
The graduate school is composed of 9 doctoral programs, 114 master's programs with 29 provincial key disciplines and laboratories, provincial engineering and technological research centers. Currently the enrollment totals over 31,000 students, of whom over 2,000 are postgraduates, nearly 700 are overseas students, and over 10,905 are students from continuing education. Of the 2,266 teachers employed, nine are academicians: one from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, two from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and six having external posts. Faculty ranking includes 251 full professors and 629 associate professors.
Qingdao University's goal to maintain a high standard of modern management and globalization, the university is experiencing a fast and steady development in international exchange and cooperation. It has established academic partnership and exchange programs with 80 universities and colleges in 50 countries and regions, including the USA, Britain, Germany, Japan, Korea, Russia, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Singapore, and Israel. Forty universities from among these countries have signed bi-lateral exchange agreements with Qingdao University. Each year, the university employs more than 50 qualified native foreign language teachers with long-term work contracts and over 100 visiting professors on a short-term basis. Meanwhile, each year about 100 Chinese teachers and students from Qingdao University study in these "sister universities" throughout the world. Thus, the new educational plan aimed at opening the university to the world has begun to take shape.
Qingdao University is one of the vanguard universities. There has been a gradual increase in the number of international students since 1987 when the first group appeared on campus. Now, we enjoy the largest percentage of exchange students in universities and colleges of Shandong Province with international students from more than 20 counties, namely the USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Lebanon, Sudan, Russia, Brazil, Bolivia, Korea, Japan and Venezuela.
The International Program Building has become a multifunctional compound incorporating teaching, learning, and living facilities including classrooms, accommodations, canteen, teaching room, Internet room and a gymnasium. All lecture rooms are well equipped with advanced audio-video facilities. The new international students' dormitory building opened in September 2004 is also well equipped and provides modern, comfortable living accommodations.
In field of medicine Qingdao university owns five hospitals and seven affiliated hospitals clinical practice. Classrooms total construction area of 11,220m2 Library, the library area of 2,100m2with 406 medical books, 408 volumes. Laboratory total area of 21,289m2 6,000 teaching and research equipment
As the largest comprehensive university in both Qingdao City and Shandong Province, Qingdao University has distinguished itself with its excellent teaching and disciplines, especially in the field of international education.
