Police have arrested a student of Kyambogo University in connection with the murder of his girlfriend. Mr Sam Buyinza, a third year Social Works and Social Administration student was arrested with four others.
He is suspected to have clobbered Grace Rubanga to death last Tuesday before packing her body in a television box and dumping it near Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.

Also arrested is Mr Buyinza’s relative Betty Wanzira, his other girlfriend Martha Kabasita and a taxi driver whose identity has not yet been revealed.
Deputy Police spokesperson Samson Lubega told Daily Monitor that Mr Buyinza is being held as a prime suspect in connection with the murder.

“But investigations are still ongoing,” Mr Lubega said yesterday.

According to the Police report, the deceased left her home in Kyuga, Mukono District, last Tuesday to participate in a seminar organised by a South African dealer in immune boosters at Wandegeya.

She attended the morning session and at around 2pm left for Mr Buyinza’s home in Kireka. “At night, they picked a quarrel. The quarrel allegedly turned physical and Mr Buyinza beat up his lover using a club to death,” Police said.

According to the Police, Mr Buyinza avoided his neighbours and left the body in the house on Wednesday as he planned to dump it.

“On Thursday, he folded and tied the body’s knees to the head, put it in a big TV box. He later dumped it near a washing bay on the road to Mandela National Stadium,” Mr Lubega said.

The body was discovered by the nearby residents who later informed police. Detectives found an identity card of Wanzira near the deceased body.

“Our investigations led us to Wanzira and Mr Buyinza. He (Buyinza) told us that he suspected his other girlfriend Ms Kabasita to have committed the crime but Ms Kabasita said she last met him a month ago,” he said.

Mr Buyinza took officers to his home where Scene of Crime officers (Soco) found bloodstains and a club they suspect he had used to beat Ms Rubanga, Police said.
“We have taken those samples to the forensic experts to get more evidence,” Ms Lubega said. The prime suspect also led detectives to the special hire driver who is suspected to have driven him with the body to the place they dumped it.

The driver, however, told police that he was hired by two male adults including Mr Buyinza, saying they had expired drugs they wanted to dump at Namboole.
Police have not yet identified by motive of the crime.
