TANZANIA Professionals Network (TPN) has donated an assortment of goods worth over 4m/- to the flood victims in Morogoro and Dodoma regions respectively.
The aid include 20 buckets, 20 blankets, 25 mattresses, 13 cartons of soap and 1.1m/- in cash which will be used to support communities living in the camps. The TPN Vice-President, Mr Phares Magesa, said the aid was a result of the campaign organized by TPN in collaboration with its stakeholders.
The consignment was handed over to the Red Cross at its headquarters in Dar es Salaam yesterday. He said various people sent their donations to his organisation following their campaign which kicked off early January.
"This aid is a results of our initiative in collaboration with our stakeholders in order to help our fellow Tanzanians who have been affected by floods", said the TPN vice- president.
He asked Tanzanians to develop the spirit of helping one another, saying the response for helping the flood victims was not good enough.
"The response actually was not adequate, we should keep on contributing since the floods have affected many people, many have lost their lives plus settlements and properties", said Mr Magesa.
Speaking on the same occasion, the Tanzania Red Cross Society Deputy Secretary General, Mr Peter Mlebusi, thanked TPN and its stakeholders for the initiative to help the people in difficulty.
He said the Red Cross had targeted three areas for assistance to floods victims which include the construction of shelter, providing the victims with the health services plus non food items.
