The Alira handset will sell locally for RWF19,900 (US$37) before any deals from the local operators. The handset is the first off the line from a joint venture set up last year between the Rwanda Information Technology Authority and the Chinese firm, Chinalink Digital and Technology. The company says that it has two more model under development - but production is limited to a maximum of 700 units per day.
