A video circulating on TikTok from an account operating under the handle “meaculpa052” claims to show former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga accusing current Speaker Anita Among of bewitching her.

In the video, Kadaga appears to be heard saying:

“Anita, you bewitched me! Now it's your time to pay for what you did to me. Thank you, General Muhoozi and President Museveni.”

Claim

A TikTok video posted by an account under the handle “meaculpa052” claims that former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga accused Anita Annet Among of bewitching her and thanking President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Muhoozi Kainerugaba for what is happening with Anita Annet Among.

There are no credible reports, official statements, or verified recordings showing Rebecca Kadaga accusing Anita Among of witchcraft or making the statements contained in the video.

While both Kadaga and Among have held the position of Speaker of Parliament at different times, there is no evidence that Kadaga made the alleged remarks.

The circulation of manipulated videos using the faces and voices of public figures has increased with the growth of artificial intelligence tools, making it easier to create misleading content that appears genuine.

Verdict

The video is a deepfake, created by manipulating footage of Rebecca Kadaga and adding AI-generated speech to make it appear as though she is making statements she did not make.

The footage has been digitally altered using AI-generated speech to create a false impression.

The video that was manipulated was a video from an in field interview that Kadaga had with NTV Uganda, as she was reacting to claims from supporters of then speaker, Anita Annet Among, that to be National Vice Chairperson of the Central Executive Committee of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) must be a sitting speaker of parliament.

At the time, Kadaga was running against Among for the position. She refuted the claims saying the position had nothing to do with being speaker. It was about women being represented on the Central Executive Committee.
