Anita Among Freed From House Arrest, No Charges

Former Speaker Anita Among has tweeted for the first time since May, confirming reports that she is now free from house arrest and will not face criminal charges. She said she will soon be back in parliament.

“I take this opportunity to thank the Almighty God for the gift of life and freedom. My profound and heartfelt appreciation goes to His Excellency, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for his unmatched parental grace and decision to grant me mercy,” she said on X, her first post since May 27.

News that Among’s fortunes will change was announced last night, also on X, the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. “We shall not prosecute AAA. She made mistakes but Mzee has decided to forgive her,” the CDF revealed last night.
