Headed to the start of the liga, I've noticed a handful concerns from yesternight's game. We may have outclassed them, but they are Manchester United, not an elite team(no offense). Just some flaws that shouldn't worry us so much, but enough to keep us humble.
Goalkeeping was a bit annoying. Keylor maintained his terrible footwork, smashing balls whenever he received those back passes and hoping for the best. Only few times he was able to make a good pass. But main concern from Keylor yesternight, was his spilling the ball to the center where traffic is at. Twice he did so, and they made us pay once, missing the other thanks to the robotic quality of Lukaku.
Defence.
Our defence in general played an awful game. It's leader Ramos is clearly not at his physical best, as he was uncharacteristically bullied quite a few times in aerial duels with Lukaku and later Fellaini. He also was slow in reading the game, and United's goal was part his fault as he was caught sleeping when Lukaku went after the rebound. I'm sure he'll pick up with time.
Varane was his usual quiet self. Didn't put a foot wrong exactly, but wasn't involved as he was supposed to. With his height and intelligence, I expected him to have neutralized the threat Fellaini possessed when United opted for the long balls. Anyway, that's Varane.
Marcelo was also his usual self defensively, not so reliable, and we suffered more because his covering partner Ramos was off color too. He wasn't in his steroid usual offensive mode either. His performance in general was just ok, and I'm sure he'll pick up with time as well.
Carvajal has been and continued to be poor since pre-season. They toyed with him a few times, specially when Rashford came on, and he lacked sharpness in decision making. He is partly at fault for the goal we conceded as he failed to clear the ball and lost to Fellaini. His offensive aspect wasn't as bad. I know for a fact he'll come around with time.
Midfield.
As usual, they were on track. Nothing worrying about them. They are ones carrying the team, they have been for some time now.
Attacking.
So many concerns here. Benzema was good with his role as a play-making striker, his movements and decisions were impressive for the most part. Bale was active which is a good sign, but almost useless and rusty. BBC are our biggest weakness, as they're often awful as they come.
All in all, like I have been saying over and over again, this team's biggest quality is adjusting accordingly. We have our weaknesses, but I'm expecting a lot of great moments in the coming season.
