Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko admits he is flattered by Real Madrid’s interest in him.

The Frenchman was left out of Newcastle’s matchday squad for their opening fixture against Fulham on Friday night, fuelling speculation his departure from St James’ Park is imminent.

He is reportedly a target for Real Madrid after the Bernabeu giants’ opted not to bring in his international team-mate Paul Pogba, and the 26-year-old admits he would welcome a move to the Spanish capital.

"I hoped that my time would come, and it may have come. I feel eligible to go to one of the big teams. It is flattering to arouse the interest of a Spanish club. To reject Real Madrid is difficult."

There were doubts over futures of Kovacic and Nacho before the tour kicked off, but a chat with Zinedine Zidane has convinced the pair to remain at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, where they are expected to wear the number 6 and 16 shirts respectively in 2016/17.

Although the French coach could not promise either a starting place, he persuaded them that they'll have an important role as backups and that without players like them it would be impossible for Los Blancos to win titles.

He considers Nacho one of the best centre-backs in LaLiga, but the problem for the 26-year-old is that he finds himself in a team with other star centre-backs like Ramos, Pepe and Varane.

Kovacic, meanwhile, faces similarly tough competition in midfield, but the 22-year-old has been told he will play frequently, especially after enjoying an outstanding pre-season.

Real Madrid are in the chase to sign Italian starlet Andrea Favilli, according to sources.

The 19-year-old striker, who is contracted to Livorno, spent last season on loan at Juventus, where he impressed in the youth team.

His performances while in Turin, coupled with his displays at last month’s European Under-19 Championship, have prompted interest in his services from AC Milan and Inter, while Juventus have contemplated signing him on a permanent basis.
