Power shedding is back
2008-10-08 13:30:10
By Guardian Reporter
The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) has announced fresh load shedding countrywide following yesterday`s collapse of a big transformer at its Ubungo plant in Dar es Salaam.
In a message signed by Tanesco communication manager Badra Masoud yesterday, the company said it had also been forced to re-introduce power shedding after another Aggreko gas turbine in the city developed mechanical problems.
With the two equipment out of order, Tanesco said, the national grid had suffered a shortage of 40MW from the defective transformer and 20MW from the Aggreko turbine.
A rationing schedule issued by Tanesco shows that power will be disconnected in the city from 9am to 6pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, power will be disconnected in Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, Shinyanga, Arusha, Mbeya, Tanga, Dodoma and Morogoro regions.
