The incident occurred on Saturday, August 29, 2026, between 3pm and 4pm, when the suspects allegedly entered an apartment and went directly to the foreign investor.
According to police, the three men were dressed in civilian clothing but claimed to be police officers on official duty. They allegedly demanded the complainant’s passport and an unspecified amount of money.
As the suspects questioned the complainant, a member of staff at the apartment alerted officers from the Counter-Terrorism Tourism Unit.
The officers responded and arrested the three suspects at the scene.
A search reportedly recovered two suspected forged police warrant cards, which police say were allegedly being used to support the suspects’ claims that they were security officers.
The suspects have been identified as Osire John Pius, Girengero Pius and Emogu Julius.
They are currently being held at Entebbe Police Station and will be processed in accordance with the law.
Preliminary investigations have also linked the suspects to at least two earlier incidents involving foreign nationals in the Entebbe area.
Police allege that about two weeks ago, the group robbed tourists in Manyago, while a week later they allegedly robbed Indian nationals in Kitooro.
Investigators suspect the group targeted foreign nationals in areas frequented by tourists.
According to police, the suspects allegedly used forged security identification documents to impersonate officers on official duty, allowing them to gain the confidence of their targets before allegedly robbing or extorting them.
The latest arrest followed the alert raised by staff at the apartment, enabling the Counter-Terrorism Tourism Unit officers to intervene before the suspects could leave the scene.
Police commended the apartment staff and the responding officers for their vigilance and prompt action, saying it led to the arrest of the suspects and prevented further harm.
Investigations into the allegations and the suspects’ possible links to the earlier incidents are continuing.
