The succession dispute in the Tooro Kingdom has taken a new turn, with Prince Patrick Mpuuga and Prince Solomon Nyaika, sons of Omusuuga Charles Karumasi, accusing self interested individuals of allegedly taking advantage of their father to advance personal agendas.
According to the Daily Monitor, the princes say their father retired from his position during last year’s coronation anniversary, after which they expected the process of identifying and installing a new Musuuga to begin.
They further maintain that the will left by the late King Oyo is binding on all parties involved in the succession dispute and should guide the process of determining the kingdom’s next leadership.
The princes have also rejected suggestions that a king can be elected, arguing that monarchs are traditionally not chosen through a voting process.
Their comments come amid a deepening succession dispute following the appointment of Prince Edward Kijanangoma Rukidi as the new King of Tooro.
The disagreement has continued to generate competing claims over the legitimacy of the succession process, with different parties invoking traditional practices and the late King Oyo’s wishes to support their positions.
