Tooro Kingdom palace keys go missing

Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi has told Tooro’s Supreme Council, the Orukurato, that the keys to the Tooro Kingdom palace are missing, as the dispute over the kingdom’s succession continues.

Kamurasi said that despite the ongoing legal challenges to the selection of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, Tooro has a new king and he will follow both Tooro tradition and Ugandan law.

His remarks come amid growing disagreement over Kijanangoma’s selection by the Babiito royal clan.

Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, Princess Ruth Komuntale and other members of the royal family have rejected the selection, saying the late King Oyo left a will naming his son as heir. Princess Elizabeth Bagaya has also opposed the succession process.

Kamurasi, however, has reaffirmed Kijanangoma’s selection, maintaining that the royal clan followed the appropriate traditional process.

The dispute has now moved beyond the royal family, with legal challenges adding to tensions over who should succeed the late King Oyo.​
