Hi JF members?

Considering challenges subsisting within East African countries (individual country challenges) should we still be talking about hastening a political union or even having a common currency?

Have the individual countries come above their localized challenges such as democracy and governance issues, grand and petty corruption, ethics, budget sufficiency, controls over public finances, tribalism, union challenges between Tanganyika and Zanzibar?

My humble opinion is that much as the individual East African countries are still struggling with the above challenges within their own countries, integration of East African countries is not a top priority of the common people especially the poor.

Let us solve our democratic, economic, ethnic, tribal and ethical challenges first and improve public services such as education, health, water and sanitation, electricity, all weather road networks in our individual countries before bothering the majority poor peoples with the fashion and far fetched advantages of EAC integration.

No, we should not hasten the political integration until we put our house in order first. For example the good relationship between the country members (e.g. refer the current diplomatic fracas between Tanzania and Rwanda). It is also difficult to think of a political integration while the existing political union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar is in turmoil. Unless the East African house is in order, thinking of a political integration is a nightmare!

Umeona eee, hii inakuja.

No need infact we better leave it and concentrate on the South, this pack of Jackals is not our type.

Please please, keep the political integration on hold long enough to put our house in order, however long it takes!

Kwa waafrika hakuna kitu kama federation itashindikana tu, tusipoteze muda wetu, E.U yenyewe ni kasheshe tuweze sisi..??

NO WE SHOULDN'T! instead we should fast track re-birth of our beloved Tanganyika. It is only then that we Tanganyikans can decide whether we really need the EAC type of cooperation. Hongera kwa kina Warioba et al kwa kugundua kuwa hiki kiini macho cha muungano wa Tanganyika, Unguja na Pemba hakiwezekaniki tena katika mazingira ya sasa.
